We had the good fortune of connecting with Keny Marie LeepierFreeman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Keny Marie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
KayEmElle Art was originally born from my love to create and re-create things. As a cannabis user, I noticed that the market was limited on what kinds of designs you could find on trays, and you can hardly ever find matching accessories. With that in mind, I started making customized three-piece sets. The sets include a metal epoxy coated tray, matching grinder and lighter. Each items image is fully customizable to my customers liking. I researched to find the most affordable items so that I could pass on the savings to my customers. We strive to provide quality sets at a low price.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

I am the first start up company to offer quality, custom 3-piece matching sets. I provide high-quality items at a low price. I have no minimum order requirement for wholesale pricing, and I offer white label branding.

Perseverance, self-belief and determination are ehat got me to where I am now. Being a business owner is hard work. You must be willing to work long, hard hours with no pay until you see results. More than anything you must believe in yourself and your brand. It’s also important to surround yourself with people who are rooting for you and what it is you are trying to achieve.

Like most things in life, running a business isn’t easy. It’s a learning process. You learn in early that all money is not good money and though you maybe surrounded by people, everyone will not have your best interest in mind. You must be careful with your brand and the people that you surround yourself with.

The biggest lesson that I’ve learned that I am my only competition. No one can do what I do the way that I do it.

I want the world to know that you can truly do anything. It’s so cliché’ but it’s true. I was a foster kid who came from nothing. I’ve overcome major life issues such as the loss of a parent at a young age, struggles with mental health issues and the loss of a child just to name a few. If I can overcome adversities and create a successful business from just an idea, my passion and hunger…anyone can!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Mission Bay will always be my go-to. Ocean waves, roller coasters, great food and people! Roller skate, rent a bike, go for a jog. There are so many options on the boardwalk!

Royal Mandarin- The best food in National City- hands down! Try the salt n pepper wings and shrimp!

La Jolla Shores- The place that will always hold my heart. The ocean, cliffs, waves, beautiful houses and people!

Old Town- There are so many things to do and see in Old Town but my favorite thing to do is eat, so my recommendation is Coyote Café! Tacos of course! But….try the FRIED ICE CREAM. You will thank me!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shout outs go to my family first and foremost. They are the ones who support me on a daily basis and push me to be my best. My friends for their backing! Ann Rd. Smoke Shop for giving me the first opportunity to sell my product in a retail location.
Tattoos & Smoke/All Access Las Vegas for giving a stage to showcase my product on multiple times.
