We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelly K-Hamo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kelly, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Business ownership has been in my family for many generations, and I grew up with this concept ‘be your own boss’. After retiring from the Air Force – I struggled with doing nothing. I started with cleaning out closets and selling old items online such as Ebay and ETSY. Once the online bug hit me, I couldn’t stop and wanted more – picked in yards and thrifts stores for items that were trending. Eventually, I found my home online with creating my own products. Running a business felt comfortable to me and I loved all the processes involved with curating, researching, and learning the platforms to sell online.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My brand is gemstone jewelry and essential oil products. My love of rocks began as a child, I use to have rocks and stones from everywhere I visited – my room had jars and shelfs filled with these trinkets. And essential oil became a passion with my sensitive nose, especially fake, perfume scents – would make me nausea. Received an aromatherapy certificate about 8 years ago. I feel the gemstones and oils are a great combination to working with nature’s gifts. I stumbled along the way with online sales – I have tried vintage items, resell items, and even mall kiosk sales. My try passion is working with the creative process, touching my products and shipping my products – not selling on large platforms where you lose the special touches. My goal is to create timeless gemstone jewelry pieces and try to stay focused on being affordable as well. My essential oils are unique and blended for all types of issues that many people suffer from today, I believe holistic aids are a great option to wellness.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a simple person and love the beauty San Diego has to offer without breaking the bank. Many of our beaches have great views and not too crowded to hang out for the day – Moonlight beach is a favorite for our family. Taking a hike in Torrey Pines, and catching a bite to eat at Liberty Station, always fun and entertaining.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My biggest cheerleaders are my family – especially my husband Alan and daughter Gabby, who participate in my online business whenever I can grab them to help with packaging, creating, and an honest second opinion. Also, my mentorship with online success is with a group call 0-100k on Facebook owned by Alison J Prince. Have taken courses with the group and they’re always available to answer all my silly questions with no hesitation, definitely a safe place!
