Meet Keith Mooney | Keith Mooney – Mixologist Co-Owner of Fluid Bartenders

We had the good fortune of connecting with Keith Mooney and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Keith, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I grew up in Kirkland, WA, and I was raised by a single mom and my grandmother. The women in my life were hard working and made me who I am today. They instilled the core values I follow to this day.
From an early age I was taught to be kind, respect others, and treat people how you wanted to be treated. And that hard work pays off. As my grandmother would say, “Keith, don’t do your work half-a**s. It’s not over until the job is done.”
What should our readers know about your business?
Fluid Bartenders is a bartending staffing company serving private and corporate events. I believe that our focus on the details is what sets us apart from our competitors. We listen and follow through to the very end. And, if something ever goes sideways, we will find a way to make it right, so it all works out in the end. That’s the Fluid Bartenders promise!
Fluid Bartenders began in 2017, working backyard events (which we still do), to now staging 250-400 guest weddings along with large annual charity events such as the San Diego Automotive Museum’s ‘The Party in the Park’ events, Ronald McDonald House Charities ‘San Diego’s Dinner with Friends,’ to serving as a preferred vendor at, Tower Beach Club, City of Coronado’s Coronado Community Center, City of Delmar’s Powerhouse Community Center, Sacred Mountain Julian and Rimrock Ranch, to name a few. Fluid Bartenders has expanded from San Diego to Orange County, Palm Springs, Temecula and Greater Los Angeles.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, if my best out-of-town friend was visiting, I can think of a few things I would do (I am going with an extended weekend).
First, I would take them to lunch in Old Town at Casa de Reyes (2754 Calhoun Street, Diego) for amazing authentic Mexican food and a margarita! Then, later that evening we’d hit Seven Grand (3054 University Ave) for a game of pool and amazing whiskey sours.
The next day would be a beach day, and we’d go to Coronado for lunch at the Hotel del Coronado. And because I am always a kid at heart, we’d have to do a day at the San Diego Zoo, ending up La Puerta for Dinner and tequila (560 Fourth Ave).
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Off the top of my head, I can think of a few people who mentored me at the start of my hospitality career:
Vince Speziale was my first manager at the Sheraton Seattle, and he always held me to higher standards, would always expect 100% from me (and more!).
Elizabeth James, General Manager of the Westin Seattle, always made time no matter how full her schedule was to coach and counsel a young manager who needed extra help.
But one of my biggest mentors was Al Rogers, Sheraton Seattle’s head Doorman. Al was voted ‘Ten People to Know in Seattle’ by Seattle Magazine, because his ‘people skills’ went well beyond customer service; he was the Master! And his impact on me began on my first day on the Sheraton Seattle, when Al looked over at this shy, non-talkative kid and said, “Hey, do you want to me my wingman?” I didn’t know it, but my life was about to change. In a short time, the shyness disappeared with priceless lessons from Al. We worked together for the next ten years at various hotels in Seattle. Unfortunately, we lost Al to a heart aneurysm on January 17, 2002. Still, he left me the most valuable gift that has contributed to my success – understanding the value of customer service!
