We had the good fortune of connecting with Kayleen Hewitt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kayleen, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Though I may be approaching 20, the journey that led to Life-Styling feels like a lifetime in the making. The business was born out of my talent and passion for all things creative which came to fruition very early on in my adolescence. Throughout my life, family, friends & followers have asked me to help them on a variety of things to “aesthetify” their lives: interior decorating, styling, photography, personal shopping, and more. In other words, people are looking for Life-Styling by Kayleen Hewitt. I had known all my life that I would need my own business to sustain aiding people in their aesthetic endeavors. I also knew I needed to be my own boss to properly execute the visions and dreams that relentlessly occupied my mind. Crafting the concept for Life-Styling was an organic process, sparked by a late-night revelation just before entering college. Beyond a mere business, Life-Styling is a platform empowering individuals to unlock their aesthetic potential across clothing, art, and interior design. What Life-Styling aims to do is give our audience a platform to access and unlock their own infinite aesthetic potential, whether it is expressing themselves through clothing, art, or interior design. It isn’t about what Kayleen likes or thinks you should be wearing, it’s about discovering your unique tastes by giving the customer freedom in customizing and curating various aspects of their lifestyle to achieve a higher vibration in both the physical and digital landscape. I like to think of Life-Styling as a tangible aesthetic software plug in, a sugary top coat to your every day life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art and creative outputs mean a lot to me because of the evolution I’ve seen them undertake. Life-Styling’s first installation of the brand were our signature mobile & desktop wallpapers. After that, I expanded to custom collages and freelance graphic design. Since the 5th grade I have made digital art on the same free app I use to this day. Looking through my cameral roll and seeing the evolution and maturation of it fills me with great pride and joy. It reminds me of my progress as a creative and reminds me that the creator energy has always lived inside me, and it is not going anywhere. It hasn’t been easy to piece together Life-Styling. The brand itself is highly dependent on its captivating and aesthetic imagery and it takes time, effort, and temperance to produce high quality, and often custom, graphic design in large batches. I am behind 95% of Life-Styling’s content, I accredit 5% my beautiful friends who model for campaigns and collections as necessary. Balancing full-time studies, part-time employment, and steering a fashion-tech startup alongside being the CEO of Life-Styling hasn’t been without its challenges. However, the resilience forged through peaks and troughs reaffirms my dedication to our mission: inspiring confidence and self-expression. The biggest lesson I’ve learned in the first year of my entrepreneurial endeavors is that the only way you can fail is to not try at all. This propels me to keep pushing forward because I believe that all people deserve access to services and products that can elevate themselves in this way.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend came to visit, I would definitely take them to UTC La Jolla for shopping, City Tacos for lunch, hit Windansea or Black’s beach, thrifting in North Park, LAVO for dinner downtown, and El Camino for the afterparty!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to appreciate all the ways in which my Pearl Street family, Jen, Micheal, Mark, and Kylee, have had on me through my formative years in setting an example, serving as inspiration, and blessing me with extrodinary opportunities to access experiences that I couldn’t have had otherwise. One of my biggest supporters is Daisy Romero, founder of Pretty Picnic Things and Pretty Mindset, another San Diego based female-owned business. She has taken her time to mentor and motivate me to continue Life-Styling. In October, we collaborated and Pretty Picnic Things hosted Life-Styling’s first live event: A Live Collage Picnic Party.
