We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Tessier and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katie, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
Growing up in an adopted family that spanned three continents – Asia, Africa, and North America – has profoundly shaped my worldview and instilled in me a deep appreciation for the richness of diversity. Within our multicultural household, I was exposed to traditions, variety, and perspectives that constantly enriched my understanding of the world. I learned to embrace and respect each cultural facet. This upbringing nurtured in me an inherent acceptance of differences, a thirst for understanding, and an unwavering appreciation for the tapestry of cultures that make our world so beautifully diverse. Today, it has inspired me to champion unity in diversity, recognizing that it is through our differences that we truly come to understand, appreciate, and celebrate the beauty of humanity. Something that is seen and celebrated all throughout California.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a child, I was shy, often finding solace in the world of theatre and performing arts. For me, those moments on stage were an escape from reality, where I could shed my inhibitions and embrace a newfound self-assurance. It was as if I discovered an alternate dimension where my introverted nature could blossom into a captivating performer. Throughout my journey of continuously performing and being in front of people, I found a reservoir of confidence within myself that was nothing short of life-changing. My passion for acting grew stronger with each passing day. This creative outlet was more than just a hobby; it became the essence of who I am. I realized the profound importance of identifying one’s true calling and pursuing it with unbridled enthusiasm. Acting is not just pursuits of my heart but pathways to self-discovery.

Beyond personal enrichment, I carry a deep conviction that the arts have the power to change the world. Through storytelling and visual representation, we can elicit empathy, spark conversations, and challenge societal norms. I want the world to know that I use art and performing not only for my own fulfillment but also as a means to make a difference. My passion for the performing arts is a dedication to using this platform to ignite change, provoke thought, and create a more empathetic and interconnected world, one mesmerizing performance at a time.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As Miss Los Angeles County, I am fortunate to have the wonderful opportunity to regularly explore the dynamic and multifaceted essence of Los Angeles. This city, is full of beautiful neighborhoods, cultural pockets, and breathtaking natural landscapes, and presents an abundance of possibilities for exciting adventures and profound discoveries. From savoring exquisite cuisine (my favorite is Thai Patio), immersing oneself in the arts and culture (take a trip to Chinatown or the Getty Museum for some forever memories), or simply enjoying the radiant California sunshine (you can find me at Malibu beach on a rare day off), this sprawling metropolis boasts an array of unforgettable experiences waiting to be cherished.

If I had time with you in Los Angeles County we’d: take a trip to Catalina Island, eat some delicious Korean BBQ in Korea town, enjoy a walk on Hollywood Boulevard, take a shopping trip on Rodeo Drive, Hike to the Griffith Observatory, visit the iconic Santa Monica Pier, and enjoy the diverse food at Grand Central Market in Downtown LA

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Giving a shoutout to my local Miss Los Angeles County Directors: Ken and Coleen Rockey, I would like to celebrate everything they have done for myself, sister pageant titleholders, and the community. I am so grateful for their time, effort, financial donations, and kindness. They run the local Miss and Teen Los Angeles County, Culver City, San Fernando Valley, and Woodland Hills pageants. Without their help, I wouldn’t have the opportunity to represent such a wonderful community like Los Angeles County across the state of California and Nation.
