We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie May and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katie, what do you want your legacy to be?
I have given this so much thought over the years. Working as a nurse in palliative and end of life care for 16 years I receive a daily reminder of the importance of living out your legacy on a daily basis because we never know how long we get to live here in this lifetime. I want my legacy to be love. This sounds cliche and simple I know, but when all else is stripped away, love is the only thing that matters. Did I lead with love? Did I support in love? Did I heal with love? I know I won’t get it perfect or “right,” but I will give it my damn best. I want people to remember how they felt in my presence. I want to be so fully there in the moment that it’s palpable. I want to use my presence to bring healing to each and every life I touch. I want to be remembered for the connections I made and how I could honor the lived experience of every living being. How I never lost touch with humanity and empathy and compassion always my beacons of light.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
In 2020, right before the pandemic hit, I started my own coaching business. Being a nurse for 14 years I knew I wanted to help support people in their own health and wellness journey. I had no idea where it would lead me, but I knew watching people scramble to heal toward the end of their life, I wanted to create safe and sacred spaces for people to have the support toward their own healing throughout life. I started working with moms initially as I felt a deep call to this population as a mom myself and struggling with so much early on in my motherhood journey. Motherhood is an awakening journey if we so choose to see it that way and I wanted to find creative ways to help moms focus on their own mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness. Through this process I have realized the next move in my business is focusing on expanding this care to help people have safe and sacred spaces to remember their own magic and medicine within. Soul care has become my mission, a nurse of souls I have termed it. I desire to help people connect back to their own magic and ability to heal thy self. I want to empower people to take charge of their own well being and honor it as a sacred act.

The process of creating my own business and actualizing my gifts and zone of genius has not been easy and continues to evolve. My very first coach taught me that the more I grow internally, the more my business will grow and this has been so true. Being an entrepreneur I have had to challenge myself in ways I never even considered. I have adopted the mantra “just keep showing up.” This has paid off as consistency has been key in taking the slow, small steps it takes to build a business as there are in my opinion, “no overnight successes.” I feel led to this work from something outside of myself, yet a deep inner knowing that I am on the right path even if that path continues to pivot over time.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would spend as much time outside in nature as possible. The mountains always call me. The connection with the land is sacred and one that must be felt. We would hold some sacred rituals and ceremonies to really connect. I love a good mountainside picnic and make the best damn charcuterie board around. We would nosh on the finest wine and cheese. I also love a good sauna and we have the most perfect sauna house here in town that allows hot and cold therapy. After a good rejuvenating session we’d walk around our cute funky little town and taste all the delicious beer our city has to offer. Next we’d take a trip to one of our many lakes or rivers for some amazing water play. Then, we’d finish off the night with the most amazing bonfire and sacred song like the old days.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to express gratitude for all the mentors and guides I have had the honor of coming across and working with all these years. For the tender patients I’ve cared for who taught me so much about living and loving. For the colleagues that gave me roots and wings. For my first coach Yolanda Russell in giving me the confidence to step fully into myself and create my own brand. For Nate Yeske and all the amazing support through Prodigy School. I am in awe of each and every person that has informed my journey in this soul school.
