Meet Kathleen Lisson: Board Certified Massage Therapist and Certified Lymphedema Therapist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kathleen Lisson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kathleen, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The first massage therapy class I ever took was a business class. I crunched the numbers and saw that the only way I could make massage into a career vs. a job was to open up my own business. Chain massage businesses emphasize that being an employee means you don’t have to advertise or book clients, just come in and do the work. I knew that the important part of owning my own business would mean finding a successful niche (why do clients need to come to you vs. any other massage therapist?), marketing effectively (how will clients and plastic surgeons find you?) and providing good customer service (why will clients rebook and refer their friends?).

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am proud of the holistic recovery experience that I offer to my clients after plastic surgery. I provide manual lymphatic drainage to reduce swelling and deeper techniques to reduce fibrosis. Many clients are curious about what is going on inside their body after surgery. I provide free body composition screening and a copy of the Plastic Surgery Recovery Handbook. Recovery isn’t just about wearing compression and getting massages. My YouTube features exercise videos before surgery, joint movement videos for reducing swelling after surgery and guided meditations for reducing stress. Clients interested in nutritious and delicious recipes after surgery can read the Southern California Plastic Surgery Cookbook.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I recommend that out of town clients enjoy walks along the beach in the sand.
