Meet Katharine Cameron | Graphic Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Katharine Cameron and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Katharine, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
My specific combination of practices and attitudes is what brings me success—I don’t rely entirely on any one mindset or routine.
My inner-voice or gut-feeling has always been extremely prominent, and I’ve learned to listen to it. When I start traveling down a path that doesn’t align with my values and goals, it takes an unmistakable toll on my mental and physical well-being. Whereas when I create art for my clients, pursue my passions, or help others, I feel recharged, healthy, and vibrant. The difference is stark, and I’ve learned to take my inner-voice seriously when deciding where to direct my efforts or defining my idea of success.
My tenacity and unwavering determination in following my gut has earned me the reputation of being strong-willed in my daily habits and goal-setting. When I make a goal, I break it down into smaller steps, and schedule those steps on my calendar. The next stage is the key; I tell my goals to people I really love and care about. It helps motivate me on days when I cannot motivate myself. “Do it for them, they believe in you!”
I’ve come to recognize that so little can be achieved solo. I am a very community-oriented person. I love relationship building and believe that my community is a village. The wonderful people I have built around me are full of genuine love, appreciation and support. We raise each other up and I definitely would not be living my dream if it weren’t for their encouragement.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
With my skills as a graphic designer and print specialist, I can bring your ideas to life. I’m your one-stop graphic design shop. I draw on my 14 years of experience as a graphic designer, including 5 years in print production, to set up files, print them, and have them shipped directly to your doorstep.
Ever since I can remember, my dream has been to work freelance as a graphic designer. Finally, with the launch of my start-to-finish design business, that dream has become a reality. I’m driven by my deep concern for my clients and their passions, and I couldn’t stand to see them continue wasting time and money on files that weren’t properly set up.
I truly support all of my clients and want to see them succeed. I am dedicated and knowledgeable, and I care deeply about my community. Drawing on my extensive expertise and unwavering dedication, I hold a deep regard for the community I serve. I work from a place of love and support.
Starting my business wasn’t all smooth sailing of course, there was some turbulence. The main challenge I faced was dealing with sexism in the tech industry, which is unfortunately very prevalent today. I refused to let that hold me back, though. When I realized it was getting in to my head, I found inspiring podcasts about young entrepreneurs achieving their dreams, and about people sharing their roadmaps to success. It helped empower me and realize that I was more than qualified to go out on my own. I knew my expertise and love for my clients was needed in my local community.
As I wrap up, I want to share the most significant lesson I’ve learned throughout this journey. Many individuals may attempt to discourage you by suggesting your dreams are unattainable or you may feel that you need someones permission to pursue them. However, this could not be further from the truth. Your goals are well within your reach, waiting for you to seize them.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I were to plan a week-long staycation in Sonoma County, I would prioritize exploration. I always enjoy taking people to Spring Lake for a leisurely walk, as the scenery is breathtaking. It’s also a great spot to walk dogs. Afterward, we can go to Corner Park Cafe. Though it’s unassuming from the outside, their meals are incredible. Village Pets is also worth a visit to round out a day of exploring.
Another must-see destination is the Barlow, where you can do some window shopping, visit HeadWest Marketplace, and indulge in Scream’n Mimi’s Ice Cream in the park. When I first moved here, I was told that Scream’n Mimi’s was the place to go, and it blew my mind. Before leaving Sebastapol, we always have to check out Toy Works, Create it, and Milk and Honey.
Other activities that could make it onto the itinerary include pole dancing at Vertitude Santa Rosa, bowling at the Epicenter, learning aerial silks at SoCo Aerial Collective, roller skating at CalSkate, or playing mini golf at Scandia.
I’m not a foodie, so I’m not well-versed in local restaurants. However, I’m always up for trying new things and exploring new activities.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to express gratitude to both my in-person and online friends and family. Their unwavering support and encouragement have been with me every step of the way. Whenever I needed help with polls, questions, or sought tips and tricks, they were always there for me, eager to lend a helping hand.
As an entrepreneur working alone, there are times when I feel isolated, but knowing that I’m just a call, text, or post away from people I cherish so much gives me great comfort. I cannot overstate how much I appreciate them, and I hope they all experience abundant happiness, wealth, and good health.
