Meet Katelyn Prominski Baud | Founder Pre and Postnatal Fitness Business

We had the good fortune of connecting with Katelyn Prominski Baud and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Katelyn, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I originally branched into fitness after I retired from my professional ballet career. I was living in New York, working as a Broadway musical theater dancer, and on the side I was a trainer for a barre based boutique fitness method.
The idea behind starting my own business, MOMBAUD, came to me in 2018 when I was in Buenos Aires, Argentina, 5 months after my son was born. My entire approach and need for exercise had changed. Now, not only did I need to put my body back together but I also needed to figure out how to balance the demands of motherhood. Because of this, I developed an integrative workout that directly considers a mother’s changing body throughout pregnancy, as well as supports any corrective issues that arise during this time. Instead of just stringing together a series of exercises, I curated an effective low impact workout that honors a mother and her body! It directly takes into consideration her activities of daily life and my exercises combat those hardships as well take into account a mother’s lack of time! Originally, MOMBAUD started just with private training, but by request, I created a massive online virtual library for clients who want a more on-demand experience. It’s also perfect for busy mothers who have busy schedules and can only workout on their own time. My workouts are effective and leave my clients feeling stronger, happier, and standing up just a bit taller!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Before I came across fitness, I was a professional ballet dancer for ten years, dancing in major ballet companies across the United States and touring internationally. After a career ending illness, I had undiagnosed Type 1 Diabetes for 2.5 years, I moved to New York City, transitioned to Broadway musical theater, and became a fitness trainer for a barre-based fitness method in between my show contracts. In 2018 I had the idea for my own pre and postnatal fitness business, MOMBAUD, and in January 2021, I officially opened my own company.
Since my career began as a ballet dancer, my great knowledge of the body and how it works greatly informs my career in fitness. When I am designing an exercise program for a client, it feels like art to craft a workout that strengthens and lengthens at the same time. Since I mostly work with mothers, I take into consideration her current weaknesses, her goals, and extremely important, her activities of daily life.
It took three years for me to work up the courage to open my own business. I saw the holes in the methods that I had taken myself through during my pregnancy and I knew I had a great concept. I just needed the confidence, time, and mental capacity to put everything into fruition. Finally, it took the world shutting down due to the Covid-19 pandemic, in order for me to make it happen. I knew I needed to take a chance and I’m so glad I did.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Since I live in New York City, my absolute first stop when I have a friend visiting is Maman. It is this amazing woman/mother owned café, now with several locations in NYC and Canada, and they have the absolute best treats. I love their quiche, almond milk lattes, and cookies. The owner, Elisa Marshall, also has an incredible cookbook available. If it is summer time, I like to visit Central Park, especially if kiddos are in tow, and lunch is at Le Botaniste, a vegan cafe. Obviously, I love taking in a Broadway show and just walking throughout the city, especially the beautiful Highline, if the weather is nice. A new to me, wonderful experience, getting a quick facial at Face Gym. I tell everyone I know about it and right now they only have locations in London, Los Angeles, and New York. For a fun, but affordable dinner, I love the vibe and the food at Bocaphe in Soho. For something more upscale, it’s Chinese Tuxedo!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout goes to my husband, Max Baud, and our son Kingston, my ultimate cheerleaders and supporters of MOMBAUD and beyond.
