We had the good fortune of connecting with Kate Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kate, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my own business because I wanted to do something meaningful in the world. I also wanted to find a way to stay the primary caregiver of my son and financially provide for us.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business started with the desire to see a world where children could express their emotions in healthy ways and have the skills they need to thrive in this ever changing world. I realized that in order to give kids these skills, I needed to empower their parents with them. So that’s what we do! We combine conscious parenting with holistic wellness to model a way of living healthy, present, and connective lives. We create highly digestible resources so that in just a few minutes parents can learn skills to regulate their nervous systems and help their kids do things like release frustration with lions breath, or come back to calm with rainbow yoga! I got to where I am in this business creating and collaborating with the incredible mothers in this industry. We have a podcast and have recorded hundreds of conversations asking the things I wanted to know about business, parenting, and self growth. I was open to the wisdom of others and I trusted that I had something unique to offer.

It was not easy. The only time I could work on my business is when my son was sleeping (when he slept…). In my first year of single parenthood we moved seven times seeking refuge in a housing crisis. I believe now that we needed these obstacles to have the lived experience to connect with our audience. I just kept going because to me stopping was never an option.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well my son and I actually just moved across the country from the thriving city of Asheville to the quiet cow pastures outside of Park City, Utah. If a friend were visiting I’d invite them to brunch at the Woodland biscuit where they could hear me sing a jazz brunch set on Sunday mornings.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Definitely my son. He motivates me every day to be the best person I can be. I wouldn’t have started my business if I didn’t have the need to be with him and provide for him after being suddenly thrust into single parenthood. He is my greatest joy.
