We had the good fortune of connecting with Kate Medley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kate, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
In a world where “bigger is better” is so often the mantra adopted by businesses, I feel just the opposite. To me, the individual connection is what matters most. Providing one-on-one attention to a client’s individual needs is my highest priority. I’m so fortunate that my business, PilateZENergy, focuses on just that—private Pilates sessions that are specially designed to meet the specific health and fitness goals of everyone I have the pleasure to train. No cookie-cutter classes here! Effective training can only truly happen when it is custom-fit to the client. While my business continues to focus on in-person sessions in my studio, I am also making greater use of technology to reach out to clients who prefer to train from home or who may not be able to travel to my studio—either due to location or schedule. COVID-19 has truly had a silver lining: It has shown me that through innovation, we can build a community and work together even when we are apart. For me, that means offering more live private sessions and small-group classes online that retain my focus on personalized instruction. The future is filled with new opportunities, and I hope to help clients at all fitness levels become stronger and healthier, allowing them to embrace new opportunities, too. That is my goal, and I love working toward it.
What should our readers know about your business?
Please see past interview: http://sdvoyager.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I had the best time with two of my besties a few weeks ago. We were celebrating an early birthday. Here is what we did: Lunch at Liberty Station with delicious French Rose, followed by a stroll along the water. Then for dinner, we went to Ceasarina and had an outstanding meal followed by a birthday serenade in Italian with the best tiramisu and Prosecco. The next day we sat bayside and had brunch at Bali Hai, feasting on bubbles with fresh Guava juice, shrimp with grits, and the fresh catch of the day. We washed that down with Bali Hai’s legendary Mai Tai’s and shared a piece of birthday cheesecake. Thank goodness I do Pilates!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
PilateZENergy is five-years strong thanks to my loyal clients. Each individual has brought their own special magic that has enhanced my journey. We all share a part of our everyday lives when we come together for our sessions, making each time very meaningful. I feel blessed for the community we have built together. I would be remiss if I did not express my deepest gratitude to my apprentice, Chuck Elledge. He has been instrumental in helping me pivot to new opportunities.
