We had the good fortune of connecting with Kate Keros and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kate, why did you pursue a creative career?
For me, creating an ambiance has been my pride & joy for as long as I can remember. Interior design has allowed me to create beautifully personalized atmospheres that amplify the physical & mental spaces we occupy. The biggest motivating factor for me in my career is to cultivate experiences that elevate the senses and create a positive impact.
Be it through dance, fashion, art, or cooking, I have always felt the need to express my artistic individuality. In my first job out of college, I worked as a project coordinator for a real estate development company and struggled to find fulfillment. I found the aesthetics of the homes we developed exciting and opted to go back to school and pursue a career in interior architecture where my creative tendencies could be utilized. Through interior design & architecture, I have found the marriage of creativity + analytics, where I can manifest my artistry and utilize my meticulous & social personality to develop connections with people around me and improve their environments.

What should our readers know about your business?
Studio Keros was founded with the intent to design curated spaces that evoke a meaningful impact and amplify my client’s lives. Through thoughtful design, quality materials, and an elevated eye, I believe a space transforms into so much more than a place. There is something so powerfully impactful when you walk into a space and it just feels right. To me, the role of interior design and the central motivating factor of Studio Keros is to amplify our client’s settings to their highest potential. The combination of material textures, furnishings, color palettes, and lighting are the tools we use in our designs to positively affect the sensations people feel when they walk into our curated spaces. When we are able to combine surfaces that compliment each other, it lends a naturally balanced setting that evokes peace & inspiration. It is this magical moment that I feel most proud and excited about: when a client walks into a beautifully curated space, their eyes light up, and I can feel that our creative vision has been achieved. This positive impact achieved by design well-done is my aspiration with & the purpose of Studio Keros.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oooo this is a fun one! I love where I live in North Laguna and would cultivate a out-door staycation that included my favorite niches of this charming community I get to call home.

I would recommend that my friend stay at either Hotel Joaquin or Casa Laguna Hotel, both which I feel embody the artistic & coastal character I love about Laguna Beach. We’d start the day with some coffee at Jedediah coffee and then some movement in either through a Pilates class at Haus of Wellness, spin at Vessel, or a hike up Poplar / down Dartmoore to stunning ocean views.
Afterwards, we would stop by the farmers market for some local goodies like the Tahitian vanilla coconut milk, Mago hot sauce, organic fruits & veggies, and some snacking dips for a beach picnic later.
We’d brunch at Ahba or Harvest restaurant, overlooking the picturesque golf coarse amidst the Aliso canyon mountains and listen to live music, and then hit Fisherman’s cove for the afternoon with our famers market picnic goodies.
Quick stop home to shower and then out on the town again with our first stop by Willbo for a glass in the evening and then dinner at the new & improved Miki Sushi (formerly 242 Cafe Fushion Sushi). If we were feeling feisty, we would grab drinks at Hotel Laguna, Tango, or out for some live music & dancing at the Dirty Bird or Marine Room.
Some physical movement, an outdoor adventure, delicious food, and a little boogie – That sounds like my perfect weekend!!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My dad has always been my biggest cheerleader, mentor, and role model. From day 1, he supported my many passions and allowed me the freedom to pursue my multi-directional career paths. He supported my time at NYU + life in New York, and when I told him I wanted to go back to school at UCLA to get my Interior Architecture degree he made it work because his ultimate goal is for my fulfillment and happiness. He gave me the confidence to be a self-starter, go -getter, and creator. Through all the ups and downs in my life, my dad has been my constant and encouraged me every step of the way.

I always looked up to my father, but after having the opportunity to work for his real estate development company, my love and respect for him grew. I saw him lead a high-stress multimillion dollar company with a vigor and determination that I will always seek to emulate. Now with my own interior design business, I aim to lead with care and the steadfast commitment to give it all I got.

My dad is the person I call when I am lost, down, or stuck in a situation that I don’t know how to get out of. He is a man that always has a lot on his plate and yet still seems to find the way to push all his worries aside to give me his full, undivided attention and problem solving strategies. Through his never-ending emotional support, I can say as a gracious receiver that there is nothing more valuable than knowing that someone has your back, no matter what, forever & always.
