Meet Karen Fieri

We had the good fortune of connecting with Karen Fieri and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Karen, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
As a parent, the most important thing we have done is give them the gift of time. We made the decision that I would raise our children and be available for them 24/7 and giving them that security has given them the confidence and independence to grow into successful teens/adolescents. They learned life skills daily and participated in all of our business endeavors from a young age which provided them with opportunities that have positively impacted their future.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We fell into the homesteading lifestyle out of necessity for our health. My daughter and I both have a mitochondrial disease which has physically impacted our day to day life. We learned quickly that the foods we eat were important in keeping our bodies healthy which is how we originally began. We raised chickens for eggs and my husband built a garden. We then moved from our neighborhood and purchased a little bit of land and started raising dairy goats for their milk, turkeys, quail, rabbits, and we had a large garden and fruit orchard. What we created for ourselves became a way to start a business to help pay for the animal feed. We began hosting farm tours and sharing the joy the animals brought to our lives. We shared the slower paced life with people who get to walk our llamas and alpacas, pet donkeys, and hold baby goats. Our home became our sanctuary and a new lifestyle that brought us improved health. Teaching others about how to start their own homestead or farm became an opportunity to begin a business.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We live in one of the best cities surrounded by beautiful beaches and mountains with vineyards in between. Visitors would get to enjoy coastal living while spending the day at the beach and then eating at a local beach spot. The next day could be spent in the mountains, visiting Julian for their famous apple pie or driving up to Big Bear for some fun in the snow in the winter or a day on the lake in the summer. And the vast selection of wineries throughout San Diego is always a great place to bring friends.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband and I are a team and always have been. We bounce ideas back and forth and then together we create a plan and make the dreams come true. Without his support, there is no way I could follow this path and I am so grateful for all that he does for us.
