Meet Kait Boisnard | Floral Designer; Founder and Florist of French Girl Florals

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kait Boisnard and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kait, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I approach risk as a necessity for both personal and professional growth—not in a reckless way, but as a process of self-discovery. I think I’ve had this pleasant relationship with risk ever since I was a young kid. My sister and I would climb onto the roof of our house and then leap into the branches of our Spruce trees. My parents had their worries, but also allowed us to make calculated self-assessments of our capabilities. Through that freedom, I learned to trust myself and be resilient.
When I began building my business, I knew there would be a period of discomfort and uncertainty. However, some of my biggest wins have come from stepping outside the traditional mold of floristry and entrepreneurship. One of my strengths is taking client requests and elevating them—refining their vision with my expertise to create something even more breathtaking than they imagined. I step out on the ledge by introducing unexpected floral combinations and unique design elements that clients may not have considered, with the spirit of their vision in mind. My goal is to enhance their ideas while maintaining the essence of what they love, ensuring a result that feels both deeply personal and artistically exceptional.
As a creative – there is inherent risk and my field is no exception. Flowers are perishable, trends evolve, and every wedding or event is a one-time opportunity to get it just right. Risk, to me, isn’t about recklessness; it’s about evolution and pushing boundaries to create something truly refined and unforgettable.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My work is deeply rooted in creating an emotive experience. Floral design is more than just arranging flowers—it’s storytelling through color, texture and movement. What sets me apart is my dedication to refinement and personalization. I spend a lot of time, almost too much, concentrating on how the flowers are interacting with one another. I like to think they are all friends and have something to individually communicate. Then I zoom out and consider what the entire composition says. This ability to craft a romantic and whimsical experience that reflects my spirit and speaks to clients, is what I’m most proud of.
Of course there have been challenges to get to this point professionally – breaking into a dense market, managing business administration aspects, being the CEO/CPA/CMO, etc. and the disappointment that comes along with ghosting. As most entrepreneurs will tell you though, each obstacle has forced me to become more resourceful and creative. These different lessons have revealed that passion is more powerful than what I don’t know. I’m not afraid to admit I still have learning to do – but I care enough to figure it out.
Ultimately, my brand is about more than florals—it’s about creating designs that speak to people and for people in an artful way. I want the world to know that every arrangement is designed not only to be beautiful, but to evoke feeling and meaning. My journey is ever-evolving and I’m excited for what’s to come.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We are so lucky to live in such a gorgeous and fun city like San Diego! There is so much to do, no matter what you’re into.
On weekends, I like to start out with a dirty chai at Java Earth or pastry from Lilli and then get to the water – I’m a beach baby! After a surf check, I typically have treasures I want to hunt for – and for that I go to Sea Hive in Liberty Station.
My boyfriend and I usually try and get dinner with friends on weekends and one of my favorite spots to eat is Wolf in the Woods – they have a delicious wine selection too. Mission Hills in general is such a cool neighborhood and I love taking a Sunday stroll down different streets just checking out historic homes.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
One of the most rewarding parts of being in this industry is the incredible community of creatives I get to work alongside. Any success I’ve experienced thus far is due, in part to the professional and passionate individuals who makeup the SoCal wedding and events industry. From planners and photographers to makeup artists, I’m constantly inspired by the talent, dedication and collaboration that make each event unforgettable. A special shoutout to the team at Common Goods—a home retail and event space. They are an amazing entrepreneurial duo with an incredible inventory that inspires me every time I walk in. Although we operate in different spaces, I admire their aesthetic and ability to continually refresh their showroom floor with new and exciting pieces.
