We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaela Kinnare and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I created the Instagram group Dogsof_SanDiego to feature the cutest pups around San Diego during the pandemic. It quickly grew into a page not only dedicated to dogs of San Diego, but a place for the community to come together and share our love for our dogs together. I started planning meetups whether it was to take a hike together, meet at dog beach or a local restaurant, or to paddle board. They began as smaller meetups with a few of the same people coming every time and quickly morphing into larger scale meetups with excitement from the community on social media. I started partnering with local small businesses and eventually collaborating with hotels and resorts for Dogs of San Diego Influencer Parties, rescues for dog adoption events, and the city of Cardiff to help host Dog Days of Summer in 2022. The encouragement and excitement I received from the community fueled my desire to grow my page into the flourishing ‘business’ it is today. I’ve learned how to juggle different aspects of event planning in the community, what can set my event apart from others, and that setbacks are okay and all part of the gig. I’m still in awe at how many new friendships I have, the tremendous support I have received, and I cannot wait to see what the future has in store for Dogsof_SanDiego.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Downtown San Diego to explore the city, walk along the waterfront, check out Little Italy, the Gaslamp, and Seaport Village. Balboa Park which has some of the coolest museums and the prettiest gardens. Sunset Cliffs to watch sunset, Del Mar Beach, and the beach towns – Encinitas, Solana Beach, Del Mar. We would hike Torrey Pines Trails and paddleboard with Sup Pups. Convoy Street is a must for the best asian food in San Diego. Breweries are a plentiful down here so we would probably hit up a few of my faves – Second Chance Brewery, JuneShine, and Stone Brewing.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family who supports everything I do, spreads the word about all of my events, loves me, and encourages me
Brianna and Anne my two best friends in San Diego who are always very supportive of my BIG ideas and come to all of my events
Megan and Leri from Pet Power Studio – they both encourage me to continue planning events since it is what I love to do. They also give me a lot of creative freedom and partner with me for most of my events (small business Pet Power Studio).
