We had the good fortune of connecting with Kadie Chiera and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kadie, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Our work life balance has improved since starting our own business because we are in control of the projects we take on, clients we work with and the timelines of projects.
With this shift, our work productivity hasn’t been compromised. We find that building in personal down time allows us to re-energize and be more productive during the work week. We have freedom to spend time on the creative elements of a design and be more innovative without the constraints of an overloaded schedule.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We are an interior design firm that specializes in full service design. Our studio transforms residential and boutique hospitality spaces. We focus on the details – the thoughtfully conceptualized and intentionally customized touches that make a space as one-of-a-kind as those who call it home. We approach each project with a balanced background of experience, education, and expertise. We pride ourselves on making sure our clients feel heard and valued. We operate with integrity, intuition and a love of inspired design.
What sets us apart is that we are a partnership of three. Two Principal Designers, each with a degree in interior design, certifications from NKBA (National Kitchen and Bath Association) and NCIDQ (National Counsel for Interior Design Qualification) and over 10 years of experience each. As the Business Director I take care of all things apart from design, operating the business seamlessly, allowing the designers to truly focus on our clients.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
After surfing or swimming at Scripps Pier, have breakfast at Caroline’s Seaside Cafe. After breakfast, walk over to the Salk Institute and admire the architecture and ocean view. Make your way to Pacific Beach for fish tacos as Oscar’s and then take a walk on Harbor Island boardwalk for a view of the city skyline and Coronado. Catch the sunset and check out the tide pools at Sunset Cliffs and grab dinner at the The Little Lion. An evening show at the Rady Shell is a spectacular way to end the day.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people that have supported us that is hard to name just one. Family, friends, clients, industry partners and former colleagues all encouraged us to take the leap when we were thinking about starting our own business. They helped us as we navigated the start up phase of the business by sharing resources, knowledge and experience which made the process more seamless and less stressful.
