We had the good fortune of connecting with Julie Ogazon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julie, what role has risk played in your life or career?
As a newly single mom, I had to provide for myself and my daughters, prior to that I was a stay at home mom for 8 years. I wanted to keep the flexibility of time to be there for my daughters, so I made a choice to open my own business. I believed in my product and I believed in myself, I took the risk of opening my own business vs a secure 9-5 job.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am differentiated by a unique product which is one hundred percent handmade, as well I make sure to offer great quality. I am very proud to work and design with such a talented and admirable Wayuu tribe, and it gives me great satisfaction to help them earn a constant living as well. Working hard putting effort, dedication and discipline in everything and course always dreaming to have a bright future. Been a single mom make it harder however I believe everything is possible. Along the way I have stumbled upon some obstacles however my best way to face them it has been with a good attitude and always looking for the positive in each lesson. I am a very passionate person and I always believe in what I do, for example from the first moment I discovered Wayuu bags I felt very passionate about their story. Personally consider them as a piece of art. Each of them takes approximately fifteen days to be woven, each piece is unique and proudly made by indigenous women in Colombia.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Day 1 – First I will take her to spend the afternoon at Little Italy to have lunch and good wine, after grab gelato, then a walk along the pier. Day 2 – I would take her on a boat trip in the Harbor Dr area to watch the whales, on the way back we will have lunch at Miguel’s cocina to enjoy the beautiful view and to end the day a walk-through Seaport Village.
Day 3 – A relaxing day on Del Mar/ Coronado
Day 4 – I would take her to the best shopping malls in San Diego/La Jolla, to end the day we will have dinner in Downtown.
Day 5 – we will spend the day at the San Diego Botanical Garden after a tour by Encinitas and Solana Beach.
Day 6 – A walk through the museums of Balboa Park.
Day 7 – A tour by Old Town and eat good Mexican food Margaritas.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Throughout my life I have had some mentors as well as people who have motivated and inspired me, I also count with the support of family and friends, they play a very important role in my life. I would like to take this opportunity to recognize the main star in this project ”Wayuu tribe” who work hard to make this beautiful project possible.
