We had the good fortune of connecting with JP Amistoso and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi JP, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
The most valuable lesson I’ve learned is not to be afraid of making mistakes and being uncomfortable. Running a business will always have its challenges. I’ve found that these experiences are not only necessary for development and growth, but it has helped me become a better business owner over the years. The current climate has given me an opportunity to hit the reset button. When the pandemic hit, we were faced with a lot of challenges and uncertainty around whether we would be able to keep our doors open. We had to constantly pivot and find new ways to approach our operations which required a lot of trial and error to figure out what worked and didn’t work for us. It made me rethink our business strategy while adapting and implementing new changes such as conducting outdoor workouts, putting safety protocols in place and changing the layout of our training facility to make it COVID-19 compliant. Change can be scary and uncomfortable, but is often necessary to be better and do better.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a coach, there are a lot of things to be excited about and be proud of. I have an opportunity to see progress. There is nothing more satisfying than when a person who wants change both physically and mentally allows themselves to go through the process of being better. I get to map out their success. I started Ganbatte Fitness because I wanted a change in my career. I used to work in the medical field and while I was comfortable with my job, I wanted something that was more fulfilling. Where I have the opportunity to help people be better is through sports and building a community of like-minded people. It hasn’t been easy and it still isn’t, but I’m constantly learning and trying new things. What has helped me over the years is being okay with the mistakes I make and constantly striving for better. I’ve learned how to be flexible, to change as it’s a forever changing industry and learning how to be firm with my decisions. Keep following through. Stay consistent. Keep showing up and do your best! Ganbatte Fitness is the best and premiere training facility in North East Los Angeles.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m all about the outdoors, coffee, lobster rolls and sushi. I would start the day with a hike or run either at Griffith Park, the Santa Monica mountains or the beach. I also love a good coffee in the morning so I would probably hit up Laveta in Echo Park, or Blue Bottle Coffee. For lunch, I’d hop in the car and do a drive along the PCH to grab lobster rollS at Broad Street Oyster Co. in Malibu. After spending the day by the beach, I’d probably grab sushi at Sushi Gen in Downtown LA or Sushi Ike in Hollywood

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family. From my parents, my wife Leanne and my son Oliver Sloan for being my rock and my WHY through everything. My team of coaches who encompass what Ganbatte is about. My Ganbatte family, a community built with inspiring and hardworking people.
