We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordan, how has your work-life balance changed over time?

Growing up, my parents encouraged my siblings and I to try everything. From a young age I found myself signed up for various dance classes, art classes, sports, camps, and groups – you name it, I was probably doing it.

Because of that, I learned how to be busy and manage a full schedule early on. In a way I think that clouded my understanding of work life balance in the beginning of my career. When I started in advertising, I always wanted to have a full plate of to-do’s, I wanted the security of knowing once I finished one project there was another right behind it to keep me occupied. But I learned quickly you burn out easily if you’re always onto the next, onto the next, onto the next and don’t give yourself space to breath and reset.

So now, as I manage my 9-5 job and also make time to pursue my journey as a content creator I remind myself that not every deadline is a hard deadline. While there are things that need to get done and are priorities, there are also tasks you can give yourself a break on and take care of at another date or time. It’s okay to make time for yourself and find time to re-align before shifting focus back to what’s up next.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

As an artist and content creator, I create California inspired lifestyle content. The goal with each photo I take and share is to capture the essence of my life here on the west side of LA, in Santa Monica. I think what sets me apart from other creators in my space is the cohesive aesthetic I curate, sticking to one color way over a long period of time rather just for a few posts. As well as my attempts to tell a story. I want viewers to feel like each image is a stage in my day or week (because it is!). Each photo is picked with intention, rather than just to feature a product or brand.

I got to where I am today out of curiosity. I started my lifestyle Instagram account because I was just curious to understand how someone becomes an “influencer” , how do you grow an account from 0 to 1K and then some? How do you get people to come back and engage? I started to see success just by being consistent. And from there I set goals? For example establishing how many images to capture and edit each week , and then trying and stick to a consistent posting schedule. Was it easy? That’s a tough question, I think many content creators doing similar work would tell you it’s not as easy as it looks. But transparently I think if you have a creative eye and are excited about what you’re making, the creation itself is easy, even fun. It’s the staying consistent and holding yourself accountable that is hard. If your hearts in it, it shows and the success follows.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

I recognize that apart of my success goes to my cousin Katherine. She encouraged me to give content creation for social media a  real try. She let me see the potential I had to go it, and gave my the confidence of knowing I would have people out there supporting what I was doing.
