Meet Jordan Lee, Sydney Boyer | Event Decor Rentals and Custom Novelty Gifts and Merchandise

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Lee, Sydney Boyer N/A and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jordan Lee, Sydney Boyer, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
We were helping plan a bridal shower for a friend together and we were outsourcing a lot of the decor (back drop, peacock chair, rugs, vases, floral, etc.) for the event. We had several up and coming showers for friends and found we would be continually outsourcing and none of our friend group or connections really had any “go-to” business that they used for events. One day we both realized we were thinking the same thing about “why don’t we become that business and all of our friends could use us and then recommend us to their friends etc,”
After about a year in business we wanted to expand our creativity. We added on another sect of our business to include customization of gifts and merchandise for your events. Whether it’s cups with all your bridesmaids names on them, custom stickers or custom coloring activity pages for the littles at a birthday party, table number signs for your reception dinner or custom tote bags for your bachelorette party, we’ve got you! We also loved the idea of live custom events where you book us for your event and we bring all the blank products and custom designs ready to be put on the products, but we guide you and your guests on how to do it themselves.
We also plan to be at local markets this fall with a variety of our own creative designs.

What should our readers know about your business?
We have been friends for 10 years. In 2017 we had an antique booth in Carlsbad for a little over a year and we put all kinds of things in it whether it was flipped furniture, signage, vintage items we upcycled, etc. We closed it down as we both were entering different stages of life and adding kiddos to our family and it just felt like the time to end, although it was really sad, because we loved doing it together.
We have bonded over a lot of things over the years, but one of the constant things we talk about is design/decor. We both have different styles and somehow they mesh so well together, much like our friendship. Jordan may pick something out for her bathroom and is different than what I would choose and yet I love it!
As stay-at-home moms, this business idea seemed to fit us well as we do it in our own time for the most part outside of meeting up for rentals and events.
One thing we always have said to each other, no matter which business, “our friendship means more to me than our business”. We never want our business to be the downfall of our friendship and our friendship will always comes first. It’s how we genuinely serve others from our hearts and it’s how we support and encourage one another.
We both really love a fun party and/or event and we love the idea of other people having access to our pretty things and elevating their own event while not totally breaking their bank. We want your parties to be stress-free and full of joy and aesthetics, so let us be your one stop shop!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Jordan: I would take them on the old town trolley tour and see all the pretty places and delicious restaurants. Cafe coyote in old town and finish drinks on Coronado island at the hotel del. Trying on silly hats in seaport village and then take a walk at fiesta island dog park with 360 degree views of San Diego. Finish up the week with a delicious meal at Little Sheep Mongolian Hot Pot.
Sydney: I also love taking friends/family on the old town trolley tour. You get to see highlights of the city all in one day. I also would have a day of thrifting at Honest Thrift Studio in old town with a must coffee stop at Garden Coffee. I love a day at Coronado beach and an anytime of day meal at Rudford’s diner in north park. I always make sure my out of town friends have a California burrito ideally from Roberto’s. We also love liberty station in Point Loma that has a lot of fun things to do and a variety of places to eat.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Sydney: Someone who’s always encouraged me in everything I do and has been an incredible example herself is Jess at Honest Thrift Studio and Garden Coffee San Diego. She’s is so intentional in BOTH her businesses and has created the sweetest thriving community and it’s just really inspiring and incredible to watch how she does what she does.
Jordan: People who have encouraged me is my husband Brian who has been a constant support in my endeavors. Both of my parents have encouraged and inspired me, my dad with his business sense and my mom with her creativity. My sister who always understands my humor and uses word play and has empowered me to use them in my designs. I’ve received great business advice from close friends who have owned their own business and I have seen first-hand the fruits of their labor.
