We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Kownacki and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jordan, why did you pursue a creative career?
To put it simply, it’s the only thing that has ever really made me feel fulfilled in the working world has been art. Looking back, every job that I’ve ever had, I always found a way to incorporate some kind of creativity and my art into it. From painting and blinging out a headset when I worked in customer service, to being able to have my canvas art hanging up at California Sock Company, to making sure that every kid that I ever nannied for knew the basics of painting… that was just the tell tale sign that it needed to be my number 1!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’ve been working with Epoxy Resin for about 6 years or so, and have come a long way. There’s so much to learn within the medium, but I can say I am very happy with where I am at, and that’s now crazy enough, in the Wedding Industry! I’ve been preserving the florals/bouquets from couple’s weddings, and memorial flowers/objects now and I am obsessed. Not only because of the beauty of the end results, but it is SO rewarding when I get the reactions from my clients. I can definitely say some tears have been shed (from both sides). It’s a magical thing to be able to preserve a literal memory.
Becoming a woman in business is something to be really proud of, especially in recent years. It’s the best because I get to do it my way, I call the shots. It’s crazy how tired you can get of saying, “Let me ask my boss”. I am proud and excited every day being a legitimate business owner.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely take them to a Padres game (LETS GO!!) They are so much fun, and the energy is always invigorating. I’d take them to Belmont Park of course, there are so many fun little spots in there and they’ve been doing some awesome decorating… Belmont in Bloom is going on until I believe the end of May and they have beautiful floral decorations and photo ops set up throughout the whole area.
A new spot I’ve recently checked out was Starlite lounge near Old Town, it was absolutely delicious and I love the vibe there. The Nolan downtown is a great spot with gorgeous views of downtown, and really good food. Its perfect for before or after a Padres game!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom Darcy deserves so much credit for where I am at in my journey as an artist. She’s an amazing artist herself, so to have her support and approval in this entire process has been beyond uplifting to me. No matter what obstacles come up for me, she is always offering advice and words of encouragement… she makes sure I know that she has completely faith in me. She always makes sure that I know at the end of the day how much I am loved, and believed in. That truly can make all the difference in the world when there are days you can get down on yourself, or if there just doesn’t seem to be a solution to a problem. She is my best friend and is always promoting my artwork, and is genuinely curious about my projects and what is next!
