Meet Jocelyn Hucks | Lifestyle Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jocelyn Hucks and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jocelyn, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always had a passion for photography. It has been one of my hobbies for many years. As a military spouse, we move every 3 years to different locations across the United States. I was tired of revising my resume and applying to jobs every few years. I thought of pursuing my passion of photography since it can be transplanted wherever we go. I played with this idea for a couple years but held off out of my own fear of the business side. Around the same time, my husband, Michael, started his woodworking business. He seemed to jump right into it. His leap of faith inspired me to take the risk despite the competitiveness of the photography industry. In January 2022, I officially.started my photography business.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Since photography is a very competitive business, I emphasize on customer support and service while taking beautiful lifestyle photos. The process of taking photos should be a memorable experience, which I want my clients to cherish. My passions in photography are primarily families and children. However, children can be difficult to photograph. My background working with special needs children comes in handy, so I have a good understanding of how to work with children, including babies and toddlers.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would first take them to Oceanside pier for a walk. There is the famous Top Gun House nearby. Next I will take them to a hike at Anne’s Canyon Trail and take some beautiful photos. We can visit Legoland and Safari Park over the next couple of days. There is a beautiful surfing spot at San Onofre State beach (Bluffs Beach).

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like thank my husband, Michael Hucks, who believed in me and encouraged me to take risks and get out of my comfort zone. I was inspired by him. He has no prior woodworking experience and is 100% self-taught like me with photography. In addition, I would like to thank my family and friends who modeled for me to build my portfolio.
