We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenny C. Cohen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jenny C., how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was “made in Taiwan” and grown in the United States. We immigrated to the States when I was almost 6 years old.
My family lineages are farmers from the middle and most southern areas of Taiwan.
My parents were the first to marry by choice instead of the traditional arranged marriage.
The focus was always survival and I learned how to work hard.
When I became a parent I started the healing journey to where I am now.
I learned to stand up for my kids when before I rarely did it for myself.
I have always wanted to make a difference in the world and that’s how Dance to Heal came to being after I survived breast cancer .
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Dance to Heal Wellness was born after my medical treatment for breast cancer ended and the staff “set me free”. I had always danced before and I continued during my 16 cycles of chemotherapy, surgery, 35 session of radiation & an additional year of infusions.
Even if I was too fatigued to dance, being in a room of dancers and feeling the energy exchange was special!
The use of dance did become an escape once I was declared “cancer free”
TW:
It was only when one of my kids went into distress that I was slowed down.
At first when my child showed me the scars they had made in their shoulder and thighs, I went right into clinical mode.
Knives, scissors, anything with a blade was locked down. Therapy was arranged.
I went right back into dance again and missed a brand new fish filler knife in a drawer. My child found it.
I was at a local dance event when I got the call that my kid had locked the door to one of the bathrooms.
When I got home and stared into the eyes of a stranger as I bandaged up their arm – I realized I had to be present NOW or I was going to lose this child.
It was touch and go for a couple years keeping this amazing lost child alive.
When the panini hit (aka Covid lockdown) I certified in YOGABODY yoga, stretch & breath work coaching.
And even then I knew there was still something missing in my program.
I found it in Evolved Neuro Linguistic Program through Avalon Empowerment.
I am now a Master Practitioner in this format.
Both my kids are thriving in college and I’m blessed to have clients who are overcoming their unconscious loops and limitations.
I am so excited to be launching an app for the movement, stretch, yoga portions in conjunction with a membership to The Club.
And of course my private one on one clients
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh wow! In LA it would be a low key drive to the coast along Malibu and then we would swing down to Venice beach.
If they wanted an amusement park we would do it on the weekday lol
In Salt Lake City:
The SnowBird tram ride
A gentle hike to Donut Falls
A longer drive to the Salt Flats and Antelope
Island
A trip to the Salt Lake City Tabernacle – plus walk around Temple Square
The Capitol
Vegan high recommends – All Chay, Vegan Bowl, Rawtopia
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to my husband Mike and my kids Ariella & Daniel. I am who I am today because of you three in my life. I also want to recognize my parents who sacrificed so much to bring me to the States.
I am grateful to my mentors: Aszmara (who taught me how to tell the music in my movement), Jen Gottlieb & Chris Winfield (who led by example so I could learn to BE SEEN), Oreet of Sharqui Workout (who has always believed in me)
