We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Uy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor of my success is consistently showing up, whether it be good days, incredible days, frustrating days, down days… all of it! I had to get comfortable with being uncomfortable and knowing that great things take time. It’s the same message I tell my clients– PR takes persistence, consistency and hard work.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
It has always been a goal to be my own boss. I want to make myself proud, make my family proud and most of all show my kids they can make their dreams come true with hard work, persistence and a strong support system. I am proud of so many things, especially taking that first step and not giving up. In nine months, I’ve worked with nearly 30 clients nationwide, landing them features on Good Morning America, Newsweek, HLN, Forbes, The View, Buzzfeed, Refinery29, Shape, Parade, local news and many more. I take pride in using my many years of experience as a former Executive News Producer for strategic planning, building relationships and maintaining relationships. It hasn’t been easy, but I’ve learned to rest when I got tired, not quit. Being passionate about what I do– helping empower people by sharing their story and elevating their brand keeps me going.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a native San Diegan so it’s hard not to love every single thing about San Diego! My favorite spots that I always recommend to family and friends when they’re visiting are: Mostra Coffee- Start the morning with award-winning specialty coffee! Tacos El Gordo- San Diego has the best Mexican food. There are so many great spots, but Tacos El Gordo and Lolita’s are my favorite. Cali Comfort BBQ- For delicious BBQ you gotta go to Cali Comfort in Spring Valley! NXPT Fitness- When I’m not eating, I am likely working out! I’ve been a member of NXPT for years and continue to be challenged. I love taking my friends here to work up a sweat! They have two locations: one in La Mesa and another in Kearny Mesa. Torrey Pines State Beach- For outdoor adventures, San Diego has so many choices when it comes to hiking. Torrey Pines is perfect for a family hike with incredible views. La Jolla, Del Mar and Coronado has amazing views too! Three Sisters Falls- For a more challenging hike, I love the Three Sisters Falls Trail near Julian. The falls are breathtaking and perfect to jump into during a hot summer day! Raised by Wolves- For a nightcap, I enjoy Raised by Wolves. The secret door is just cool!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to give a shoutout to my #1 hero, my mom! I owe my never quit, stay strong, go-get-em attitude all to her. By watching her struggles and success, I learned to not only work hard but live a life of faith, passion and purpose. I also owe a huge THANK YOU to my support system: my family and friends who believed in me from the start and encouraged me to step out and start my own business. Surrounding myself with a community of inspiring changemakers has been incredibly helpful too. A network of smart, talented leaders and mentors in The Female Founder Collective, GirlBoss and The Mompreneur Meetup, you are truly appreciated!
