We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Curiel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, what do you want your legacy to be?
I’ve always known that I wanted to be someone great. I’ve always told myself that I have a purpose in this life and that no matter what I did, I would pour my whole heart into it. I’ve been through a lot of things in my life that have made me stronger and wiser. That have made me the person I am today. My purpose is to teach others, to be a leader. I want people to remember how caring, loving and giving I am. I’m the type of person who gives and expects nothing in return. I want people to remember me as a person who genuinely loves helping others and enjoys making people laugh. Who stands up for what she believes in and fights for what she wants.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Honestly, never in a million years did I think I’d be where I am today. This journey hasn’t been easy, but I wouldn’t want it any other way. When I first started my Tik Tok, it was mostly dancing and funny videos. It was not until I realized that someone, whom I’ve shared a few of my recipes with privately, had posted my recipes and claimed them as her own, that I started filming more food content. Although it did upset me, I decided that it was time for me to start building a name for myself. I slowly started learning more and more about how to film and edit. I incorporated Banda music in the background of my videos along with the exact ingredients and measurements. I started sharing stories in my videos about things that have happened to me in my life, which everybody loved. If there’s one thing my followers know about me, it’s that I’m a proud Mexicana and I’m not afraid to show it. Something that I’ve learned in this journey is to ignore the negative comments. At the end of the day, whether you’re doing good or bad, people are always going to talk. That’s why it’s important to always be yourself and do what makes YOU happy.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First I would take them to a Mariscos Place called “El Rinconcito” in Vista, CA to enjoy some delicious Seafood, mouth watering Micheladas and sing some Kareoke. Then, another day we could go the Oceanside Beach and have a bonfire, share scary stories and talk about life. I also really enjoy shopping so I would take them to the Carlsbad Outlets or to the Mall. I also really enjoy shopping at Ross, DD’s Discounts, TJ Maxx and the 99 Cents Store because that’s where the deals are at. Another day we could go to Cinepolis in Vista and watch a movie. Every night would be fun because at the end of the day, it’s the people you hang out with that make it fun, not where you go.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Honestly, if it weren’t for my little sister, Judith, I don’t think I’d be where I am today. She introduced me to Tik Tok back in 2019. She was 9 years old at the time and she taught me how to edit, use sound effects, and film on this app that was so new to me. At first, I was a little hesitant on making an account, but she convinced me. She’s always been my #1 supporter and I thank her for that. In the beginning, I would just do dances, which I then later switched to just doing cooking videos.
