Meet Jenna Duncan | Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenna Duncan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jenna, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I think the most important factor behind the success of our brand is just consistency! We’ve been successful, yes, but I would not by any means consider us an “overnight success”. It’s taken us several years to get to where we are, and I think consistently working on our brand in the beginning was crucial to our business. There were months where we didn’t see the benefits of our hard work, and often it felt like the hours we put into it were all for nothing. But we stayed steady-and it paid off! And I think so many other businesses could be successful if they could just hang in there a little longer and push through those difficult beginning phases.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Our business is a women’s swimwear brand, devoted to providing women with high quality and trendy swimsuit options with a little more coverage. Throughout my life I’ve preferred to wear swimsuits with a more coverage, but it was always so frustrating looking for them since most more full coverage swimsuits are designed for an older demographic and not teens/young adults. So, I took matters into my own hands and started my own brand! In most ways, it hasn’t been easy. Being an entrepreneur is uncharted waters-each journey is different and difficult in its own way. But thanks to lots of trial and error, asking questions, and honestly-lots of youtube tutorials, we’ve been able to navigate it pretty well! But I think it’s important to note that in some ways, being a business owner is easy. I care deeply for my brand, so it’s easy to stay motivated and excited to work on it. And when we get messages or emails from customers that finally feel confident wearing a swimsuit for the first time in 10 years-my heart just swells! I love what I do and that I’m so in control of my destiny.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We do lots of shoots in San Diego, so most of our time there has been spent on the beach. We love Windansea Beach, we’ve done several shoots there and would love to do more! Then of course, dinner and Gelato in Little Italy. We love anything outdoors, so visiting some tide pools would be a must as well!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband and I started the business together and continue to run it side by side. And I 100% know that our business would not even be here without him! He’s put in so much work and is always looking for ways we can improve. We keep each other going when things get crazy or stressful, and that’s been essential. In addition, we attended Southern Utah University and the Entrepreneurship Program there was just amazing. We were able to get connected with mentors, ask questions, and just have unwavering support there-it meant the world to us!
