Meet Jen Gutierrez | Student of Herbalism

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jen Gutierrez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jen, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
To be honest I was trying to figure out a way to bring in money after a medical scare. I no longer wanted to do a desk job. It took one video on homestead living and I was hooked. I was learning how to get rid of the toxins in my life and my home. Which lead me to workshops about herbalism.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
For over 25 years I was a bookkeeper. I still do freelance work for small businesses, but my heart in now with my herbalism studies. I take classes and workshops for both bookkeeping and herbalism. I want to keep current with the profession that funded me and my family so that I could live a herbalist life. I am so proud of how far I’ve come from a small thought to finding a calling. The best lesson to anything is you must go with the flow. There will be ups and downs, but try to see your goal at all times. Enjoy the ups and remember the downs are temporary. I think if you take one thing away from knowing me is that I hope I was kind to you and I gave you information that will make your life a bit better.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Food, thrift shopping, and coffee houses. Home cooking would be first. What would we like to create and enjoy together. For thrifting we would hit Wildgoose Thrift and lunch at Oggie’s in Apple Valley. In town it would be Alice’s Vintage Cottage and treats at Applewood Court in Wrightwood! For big city fun haha it would be off to Victoria Gardens in Rancho Cucamonga. Food, shopping, movies and all outside.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband, my daughter, my son, and my niece. Whenever I get frustrated and feel overwhelmed, they are there to listen and encourage me. They are my test subjects. They all let me bounce ideas off of them and feel safe if the idea falls flat.
