Meet Jared Martin | Disc Jockey, Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jared Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jared, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
I believe the most important lesson my business/career has taught me is to never burn a bridge. After working in the music industry for so many years (since the late 90’s) you learn that most people don’t come through on their promises, and in turn they burn bridge after bridge. You won’t have any longevity doing that.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I run a Professional DJ, Sound, and Lighting entertainment company called “Elite Pro Entertainment” along with my business partner Joseph Interiano. I come from a background working in radio for 22 years, and have always DJ’d private events/corporate events on the weekends since I was 18 years old. Joseph and I worked at one of the same radio stations together, and one day we decided to start an entertainment company together. Was it easy? Absolutely not. As any entrepreneur will tell you, you don’t clock out at 5pm like a standard job. Some days are 14-15 hours. One lesson I’ve learned is to always outwork the competition. And by that I mean go above and beyond for the client. They’re paying for a service that they could get somewhere else, so show them that you’re worth their hard earned money. Between both of us we have over 50 years of DJ experience.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Depends what county we’re going to. If we’re going to San Diego then firstly we’re going to Old Town SD. I like history, and Old Town is full of it. Sure Gaslamp can be fun, but Old Town is more historic. As far as food/drinks, I am a HUGE FOODIE … there’s too many places I could suggest. Drop me in any city and I will find some of the best restaurants to dine at and sights to see.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother. She was the breadwinner of our family growing up and she worked very hard/very long hours as an RN. I got my work ethic from watching her.
