Meet Janeth De La Herran | Artisan Craftsperson, Candle Maker, and Social Media Content Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Janeth De La Herran and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Janeth, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Desdemicasita emphasizes the representation of Mexican culture while supporting artisans and providing eco-friendly products.
1. Fair Compensation: By paying the prices that Mexican artisans ask for their work, Desdemicasita ensures that artisans receive fair compensation for their craftsmanship. This supports their livelihoods and helps sustain traditional art forms.
2. “Cultural Preservation” By featuring products that reflect Mexican culture—such as candles inspired by traditional designs, scents, or symbolism—Desdemicasita helps preserve and promote these cultural practices and stories.
3. “Empowerment of Artisans” Fair pay can empower artisans, enabling them to invest in their craft, improve their skills, and possibly expand their businesses or reach new markets.
4. “Community Identity”Celebrating Mexican cultural heritage through products also fosters a sense of pride and identity within the community, creating a stronger bond among residents.
5. “Education and Awareness”Desdemicasita likely raises awareness about the history and significance behind the artisanal products, educating consumers on the importance of supporting local artisans and understanding cultural heritage.
6 “Eco-Friendly Practices” Desdemicasita focuses on environmentally friendly practices, educating the community on the importance of eco-conscious living

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
To introduce myself, I am a dedicated stay-at-home mom with a passion for caring for my son. In addition to my motherly duties, I am an active content creator on several major platforms, where I focus primarily on sharing my food recipes. Many of these recipes are cherished heritage dishes passed down from my grandmother, allowing me to celebrate and honor my family’s culinary traditions.
In addition to my content creation, I run a small business called ‘Desdemicasita,’ where I handcraft candles. Each candle is made with care, and all the vessels I use are sourced from Mexico, reflecting my commitment to supporting artisans and showcasing the beauty of Mexican craftsmanship. Through both my content and my candle business, I strive to inspire and connect with my audience while preserving my cultural heritage.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite place is Los Angeles because I love the beaches. Venice Beach is one of my favorites for its lively vibe. I also really enjoy Balboa Beach and Newport Beach for their beautiful views and relaxing atmosphere.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to take a moment to recognize my family, specifically my husband and son, for their unwavering support. My son continually inspires me to strive for excellence, as I aim to create a brighter future for him. Meanwhile, my husband provides steadfast encouragement and support, allowing me the freedom to pursue my goals. Together, they create a nurturing and motivating environment that fuels my personal and professional growth. I am truly grateful for their presence in my life.
