We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamie Cole and Natalie Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamie / Natalie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
We both were working in an environment where there was no true room for growth. We both aspired and had visions of doing more with our skillset. We felt that we owed it to ourselves to take a chance on “US” and put our thoughts into action. We have been friends/family and coworkers for almost two decades. We both were familiar with each other’s work ethic and most importantly, we both shared similar interests. We wanted to show not only ourselves that we could do it, but also wanted to show our kids. Anything is possible when a determined mindset and dream go hand and hand. Did we also mention this ‘”Big Idea” happened during the midst of a Pandemic? Needless to say, we were not going to let anyone or anything stop us. We ultimately wanted to create a working environment that provided peace and balance between work and home life.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Waisted Body Bar is a minority female owned business that caters to the needs of ALL people. Physical appearance is something we feel all people struggle with. After working in the weight-loss industry for over 16 years, we understand the ups and downs affiliated with weight loss. We are excited to provide a service that can assist you with your weight loss journey. The difference between us and our competitors is simple, we are licensed vocational nurses (LVN’s) with 16 plus years in the industry. We cater our services specific to each of our clients’ needs and genuinely care about providing excellent service. Our clients are like family to us, and we treat them as such. When you enter our establishment, our hope is you leave feeling like you just left the spa. We know firsthand how challenging life can be and we appreciate our clients making time for themselves by way of Waisted Body Bar.

As far as our story, where do we start? We are both military spouses and mothers of children that have special needs. We are both very passionate about teaching our children that they can accomplish anything in the world. The only way we felt we could do this was by practicing what we preached. After a long walk on the beach we bounced our business ideas off one another. With the full support of our families, we jumped in. We have learned so much over the past year. The biggest lesson we have learned is you definitely burn more of the midnight oil with owning a business. However despite the long days and nights, it feels so rewarding to know you have direct control in running your own business.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would have to take advantage of the beach. There is no point to be on the coast without experiencing the beach. While in downtown Oceanside, Craft Coast Tacos provides some of the most amazing tacos! Not to mention their superb brewery selection! Another local spot if you are looking for amazing ribs is Felix’s barbecue. Their food is delicious, plus they are a local black owned business. After indulging in some amazing food, our last spot would be a walk on the Oceanside Pier to take in one of the best places to see an evening sunset.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, we would like to thank our families. Starting Waisted was a huge undertaking and without the support of our families there is no way we could be in the position we are today. From the countless hours painting, sacrificing time, taking on additional domestic responsibilities, our family is our EVERYTHING! We would like to also thank our grandmothers for paving the way. Our grandmothers showed us how to be the strong women we are today. It is from their example that we have learned to have strength and resilience to overcome all of life’s adversities. Lastly, we would like to thank our clients. Waisted Body Bar would not be as successful as it is without our fantastic clients. Our ultimate goal is to provide 5-star service to our clients because they deserve nothing more.
