We had the good fortune of connecting with Jack Maxwell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jack, what role has risk played in your life or career?
It’s so easy to lean on clichés about taking risks. Clearly that can be taken too far and you can risk everything all the time which is not advisable, but I think you can’t live without taking risks. Just the word itself “risk “, is called that because there’s a certain fear about the result. I’ve never been able to live that way. Taking risks excite me. I don’t do it just for the sake of doing so, but it’s the only way to really test yourself.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Trying to make money consistently as an actor, I mean to be able to put food on the table and keep the lights on, is just crazy to me. I love it, but I knew going in the chances of me doing so were slim to none. After all, that’s all anybody ever tells you. That it’s impossible. Try to do something else, they’d say. My heart wouldn’t let me. My soul was filled with wanderlust. I could never take the traditional route. So here I am.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I travel so much I’m not even sure what the hip places are. Not really keyed in on what’s happening in the city. I like to go downtown. It’s always felt like the heartbeat of the city to me. That being said, it’s never been what I do but rather who I do it with. LA has some great places to go for a hike like Fryman Canyon or Runyon. I also like to go up to Malibu. The beach has always been my happy place. Or even down to Santa Monica and Marina del Rey. I love all of it.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Every person I’ve ever met along the way who gave me a little encouragement, or a pat on the back, or offered a kind word is deserving of a shout out. Too many to name, others sadly forgotten. I appreciate every last one of them though.
