We had the good fortune of connecting with Izumi Yasukawa and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Izumi, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’m the mom of 2 kids ( 15yrs and 13 yrs old). Im a home made food creator.
I have made their lunch boxes every single day for past 12 years so far and also, snacks and dinner which means I cook most of the time for my family.
At some point,I realized that how much I love being in the kitchen and cooking then I started wondering If I could do something with my cooking.
I especially love Japanese food, cooking, baking and culture as I was born and raised in Japan so If I start something my food business that would be the one I love to put some Japanese taste and culture in my cooking.
since we moved to San Diego from LA last year, I finally started my small business by my own which is home baked Japanese style roll cakes in bento box
What should our readers know about your business?
I love both Japanese and American culture so much .So,I would love to create my own cuisine by blending the both great culture and Eco friendly as well.
As I’m living in 24/7 mom life, my priority would be my kids and family it won’t change.
My small business definitely can’t be built by without them so, Im not having a huge goal set in next 10 years so far but also, trying to set up small daily goals that’s what keeps my life in balance.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love strolling around beach area especially city of Encinitas would be one of my favorite city! When my besties are visiting me from South Bay where I used to live , I always take them to there for having a dinner , a bottle of champagne !
The restaurant “Valentia ” and weekend Farmers Market in Leucadia are my favorite spots .
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
there are obviously I love to dedicate my shoutout to my family and friends who have been patiently supportive and encouraging me all the time.
I’m living away from my parents for a long time who live in Japan so we don’t see each other that much like a once a year . my mom is self-employed having own hair salon for 40 years in Japan . The way of her life reminds me that how much important We need to stay positive ,be happy by yourself and do what you love ,acceptance of others as well even if we are in tough time.
