Meet Isabella Ferro | Floral Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Isabella Ferro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Isabella, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The idea for starting my business came from wanting more time with my kids and a deeper sense of purpose. After over a decade as an accountant, I realized I craved something more creative, something of my own. My husband gifted me a flower arranging class during a tough season of new motherhood, and it completely lit a spark in me. I dove deeper, took a workshop with a professional florist, and fell in love with the art of floral design.
I started Petalscape Floral Design as a way to blend creativity with flexibility. What began with small arrangements for friends quickly grew into a passion for wedding florals. It was scary leaving a stable job, but I trusted my work ethic and heart. Now I get to design with intention, serve couples meaningfully, and build a life that feels aligned, with my kids right by my side.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
One of the things that has shaped my work the most is how deeply I care. In past jobs, that level of care sometimes worked against me, I’d stay late, go the extra mile, and pour myself into things that weren’t always mine to carry. But in floristry, that same trait has become my greatest strength. I care about every detail, every flower, every couple. I take on a limited number of weddings so I can be fully present, and I treat each event as if it were my own.
I specialize in modern, romantic florals with an organic, intentional feel. My goal isn’t just to fill a space with flowers, it’s to evoke emotion and create an atmosphere that lingers in people’s memories. I want my couples to feel seen, heard, and genuinely taken care of.
Getting to this point hasn’t been easy. I started my business with two toddlers at home, no formal floral training, just an intense passion and a strong work ethic. I’ve learned everything from the ground up, and every challenge has shaped me and helped me find my voice as a designer.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that there’s power in doing things your own way. The industry may feel saturated at times, but no one else is you. We all have the ability to shine, and I love to see that in others while staying true to my own path. I’m building a brand rooted in heart, intention, and connection, and I hope that comes through in every arrangement I create.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend came to visit, we’d eat our way through my favorite spots, Nishiki for the best ramen, TJ’s Tacos for my top-tier tacos (don’t hate me!), and finish with some boba for dessert. We’d hike Torrey Pines for the view, spend a day at the beach, and catch the sunset at Sunset Cliffs. Simple, fun, and full of everything I love about San Diego.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
