Meet Isabel Rosales

We had the good fortune of connecting with Isabel Rosales and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Isabel, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always wanted to open a restaurant and cook for my community. Moving to San Diego, I saw so many opportunities for me to bring my flavor and passion with the hopes of giving my community an experience they’ll never forget.
What should our readers know about your business?
I sell Tamales Preparados and I also make chocolate dipped treats & balloon decor! I try my best to accommodate all my clients and work with them to execute their vision for their special event. I am most proud of how far I have come in the last 3 years, I’ve been able to build a name for myself and start to work at my business full-time. I would say that I got to where I am today by taking the risk and going for it, by trial and error and simply by showing up every event. It was not easy but my clients kept coming back and giving me feedback that really made me feel like I got this and everything will be okay.
The lessons I learned along the way are to never stop believing in yourself, your people will show up. Meet new people, connect with them and build a network of mentors and other entrepreneurs that inspire you.
I would like the world to know that I truly enjoy making my tamales and bringing flavor and experience through them. That I love being in community with them and sharing stories to help each other heal.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely take my friend to Barrio Logan and walk around all the shops that are there. I would take her for a beer at Mujeres Brew House because that place is just so cute and it truly feels like a home. I would take her to Balboa Park and Torrey Pines to enjoy the beach views. I would like to take her to Coronado Island to walk and eat at a fancy restaurant.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shout out to Carmen at Mujeres Brew House! She was the first to allow me to showcase & sell my tamales 3 years ago for her Tamalera Night. That was the beginning of a wild ride of pop-up markets and being able to serve my tamales to my community
