We had the good fortune of connecting with Isaac villa and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Isaac, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor that has led to my success in this industry is connecting with people and maintaining relationships. In the beginning, I struggled with approaching other artists or individuals who were more established in this community. Learning how to advocate for myself and coming to the the realization that these other successful individuals all started were I am helped me overcome this anxiety. To anyone starting out or wanting to break through this first stage of networking, I suggest attending local shows to meet other members of this community and sharing your talent.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from others is the atmosphere I create at my events. Music is an experience and should be enjoyed at the highest level. I want people to come to my shows and leave feeling refreshed and excited. My goal is to create an escape for people experiencing my sets. Starting out I faced a lot of challenges. I wanted to produce events that were fun and innovative, but lacked experience. My main struggle was the consequences that followed a poorly planned event. I didn’t have the experience needed to know I must plan for the worst to have a show run smoothly. Adaptability has been my savior! When things go wrong, it’s important to maintain fluidity. Being able to get the most out of criticism has been the most useful lesson I have learned. The ability to reflect on constructive criticism and allow it to influence future projects is one that is best taught through trial and errors. Every experience, negative or positive, should be viewed as a learning moment.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The best part of living in San Diego is how close we are to the beaches. I love starting my day off with some kind of exercise, so the first stop would be the Ho Chi Min trail. This is a nice hike through La Jolla cliffs and ends right at the ocean. In my opinion breakfast is the best meal of the day. Gravity Heights has a great menu that is light on calories and helps with not feeling guilty afterwards. Balboa Park has a lot recreational activities. At the top of the list for me is the San Diego Art Museum. It has a wide variety of art with a main focus on Spanish art. A good experience at the museum paired with some exploring around Balboa park would make for a great day. It’s hard to have a bad night in downtown. The night life offers a wide range of activities to do including a plethora of bars and clubs. Nova, right in downtown, is a club that has a great atmosphere and is full of people looking to share a good night.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The main supporter of my journey hands down has been my lovely girlfriend, Marisa Henderson. She is the mind behind the operation and has helped me every step of the way. Her opinion goes into a majority of my decisions. I couldn’t thank her enough for all the patience, and effort she’s put into my dream. Someone else who has greatly impacted my journey is Josh Taylor. I first met Josh when contacting Air Condition Lounge in San Diego to host my first event. He has been a DJ and promoter in the industry since it started here in San Diego. I am grateful for his continued advice and mentoring as I progress through the stages of running my business. Both Marisa and Josh deserve this shoutout for inspiring and driving my aspirations to a level beyond what I had originally envisioned.
