Meet Ida Desolina Candelaria | Acupuncturist and Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ida Desolina Candelaria and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ida Desolina, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I always knew that art was a big part of who I am. I choose jobs that incorporated art in some way, such as, graphic design, sign painter and illustrator but the thought that I was always creating art for someone else is what drove me to not only start my own business but to start painting for me.. .

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
During my journey as an artist, I experienced a calling to become an acupuncturist. I was resistant at the time for I knew that art was my path but as I explored Chinese Medicine it all came together for me.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine energetically we are all one. There is a delicate energetic balance within us all that allows us to be functional and in good health. There is also this delicate energetic environmental balance or imbalance which we are interdependent of referred to as climate change and concern for our planet that spun me to create a series titled “Mother Earth.”
The first of the series is titled “Promise of Spring.” In this painting Mother Earth is the root system giving life to the first bloom of the season daffodils. Each painting represents a season and hopefully brings attention to the beautiful planet we inhabit and maybe just maybe preserve for the next generation and the generations to come.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite time a day for a meal is brunch. On Sundays, I usually meet my son at Golden Hill Cafe. Its a great place to eat with a strong family oriented atmosphere. Golden Hill is a small community but with big atmosphere. After a great meal we often take a stroll around the park. I highly recommend it.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
When I first decided to step into the shoes of being the artist, I had taken a class on abstract art taught by Kate Ashton. I learned so much and will always be grateful for the mentoring and experience that opened up in me the confidence of self expression.
