We had the good fortune of connecting with Hyrum Oaks and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hyrum, what do you attribute your success to?
I come from the space of the problem. I created the Utah Valley Marathon back in 2008 and I did not like any of the registration platforms that existed at that time. I later decided to create Race Entry a software company to provide registration services that met more of my needs than I was able to find in the market at the time. Coming from the space of the problem makes it much easier to create the solution.
What should our readers know about your business?
Race Entry was named the number 2 registration company in the world by Software World for 2 years in a row now. We have created a terrific piece of technology that increases participation in events, and simplifies event management. In addition to raceentry.com we also created rodeoticket.com and strideevents.com. Our goal is to have meaningful relationships with our customers and make their lives easier with their event management.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my friend to many of the national parks, and we would for sure eat at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse. I would go for a long run with my friend and that would be the best chance to just catch up on life. I am a big fan of Ice Cream, so we would for sure go to Rockwell for the best ice cream in the world.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My story starts back when I was a child and I was the only kid asking if we could run the mile in PE. The other kids hated running the mile, but it was my favorite activity for PE. Later I was encouraged by an uncle to run marathons, and after qualifying for the Boston Marathon my marathon interest heightened. I created a marathon in my hometown since there was not one in my county yet, and the rest is history with the software company.
