We had the good fortune of connecting with Humberto Gurmilan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Humberto, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I truly believe that risk is an inherent part of life because without risks you might not be able to accomplish your goals and dreams. To me, it is important to go after the things that excite you and the things that make life worthwhile. From new goals to experiences, it is important to launch into new things if you wish to live a fulfilling life through calculated risks.
What should our readers know about your business?
Our foundation takes pride in focusing on better education and quality of life for people with disabilities in our community. We raise funds through events and private donations so that we can provide scholarships and grants for individuals that are working on accomplishing their academic and personal goals. Additionally, we’ve partnered with other organizations to be able to provide opportunities for other empowering activities like adaptive surfing. Maintaining a small organization is not easy, but we do it because of the amazing support of our community and volunteers.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many things to do in San Diego, but I would definitely focus on the beaches, surfing, and Padres baseball. I think that if you’re spending some time in this city you need to visit the best beaches in town and there is plenty of them. I think each day you can visit one different beach and experience the beauty of Southern California. In the afternoons or evenings, the great restaurants and entertainment are plentiful. I would definitely spend some time in the Gaslamp District and go watch a game at PETCO Park. Now my favorite part of San Diego is Tijuana. The culinary scene south of the border is amazing and if you know someone that can take you down there it is an experience you won’t regret. Let me know if you need a tour guide!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I owe every part of my success to my family and friends that have supported each step in my journey.
