We had the good fortune of connecting with Houston Fry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Houston, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Our goal as a business is to create a positive environment for the the community to come together to live a healthy and active life style.

Ultimate Fitness is much more than a gym, it is an energy and community. It is a place where members take pride to be apart of the Ultimate Fitness Family It is a place for friends to come together to hang out old friends and also a place to make new friends. Ultimate Fitness is a place to come and workout but it is also a healthy social hangout. Ultimate Fitness is a place to create new awesome lasting memories. I would have to thank our staff/team for always being apart of the positive energy in the gym. Our goal is that every single person that walks into the gym feels like they are walking into their home.

Alot of people do not “stick with the gym” because working out feels like a burned. Our goal is to create an environment that inspires and motivates people. Working out at Ultimate Fitness should be the best part of the day.

To simply answer your question, in a world that is currently full of negativity and stress, our goal is to help create a positive, fun, and safe environment for people to improve their physical health and mental health.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In 2003, I began working at Ultimate Fitness when I was 16 years old. I started working the front desk and I also cleaned the pool. In 2005, I became certified with IFPA (International Fitness Professional Association) as a personal trainer. I love the gym environment and fitness industry. It is a place where people come to grow physically and mentally. One of the best feelings of working in the fitness industry is being apart of the excitement when you see how excited a client/member gets when they hit their fitness goal.

I have met kids when they were freshmen in high school and now they are grown adults with families and working full time. It is a great feeling to hear back from them and they tell me how being a positive influence on them helped them in life. I have been blessed with mentors, family and friends. It feels great to have the ability to be a positive influence and role model to people.

As of today, I have been working in the fitness industry for a total of 21 years. I am very happy with what I have accomplished with my team in the last 21 years. We have 1 location in Chula Vista, CA and 1 location in Imperial Beach, CA and are planning to open more locations in the future. I am excited about the growth of Ultimate Fitness.

Success does not come easy. It takes a lot of hard work, time, dedication and believe in yourself to build a brand and a solid reputation people will trust. Having a positive support system, believing in the product and believing in myself were key elements. I would not have the success I have with out my support system and team.

Taking the time to build solid relationship/rapport with members and clients were key lessons to success. For example, as a personal trainer, my responsibility is to adapt to the client and help the client reach their goals in a way they enjoy . There is more than one way to build muscle or lose body fat, but one of the best ways is the way the client enjoys. Taking the time to really get to know clients and members is what made me success as a personal trainer and makes Ultimate Fitness Center success as a brand.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
You can not visit San Diego with out stopping to get tacos. So tacos would definitely be on the list. As a tourist, it would be great to make it out to Petco Park for a baseball game and Pacific Beach to hang out.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank my business partner Rob for being a positive role model and mentor, Ultimate Fitness Center Chula Vista Manager Sergio, Ultimate Fitness Center Imperial Beach Manager Josh, the entire staff of Ultimate Fitness, my wife Alyssa, my mom Katie, my brother Stetson, and my son Ezekiel. They are key elements to the success and happiness I have had in my life. I can not and could not do it with out my team. They keep me motivated and discipline to grow and excel. I always tell everyone, we will grow much farther and much faster as a team
