Meet Horace and Heather | Full-time RVers and Work Campers

We had the good fortune of connecting with Horace and Heather and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Horace and, how do you think about risk?
Risk plays a huge role in our life. We essentially risk everything, every time we move. We put all of our eggs in one basket by accepting jobs that provide housing. If the job doesn’t work out, we have to move as well.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When we began our RVing journey, we had no idea there were so many different ways to make a living on the road. We’ve had jobs that provide us with a free site for our motorhome, as well as paid us wages. We’ve also had jobs where we rent a site and just work seasonal restaurant jobs. It was hard to break away from what we know as the societal norm (get a job, get a house, build a family, retire…). We’ve learned what we want in a job, things we want in the area surrounding the job, how far we are from a city, etc. We wish we could encourage more young people to live a nomadic lifestyle. The way we do it, it seems so easy to travel and see the country, and fund the process.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We love Borrego! In nearly three years, we’ve never returned to a place. Except Borrego Springs. All of the metal sculptures are a sight worth seeing, as are the Badlands coming into town from Salton City. Definitely pop in to Carlee’s for a drink and a game of pool! Slot Canyon is such a great little hike and a nice photo opp too. The local taco shop, Jilberto’s, has some of the best carne asada around and discounted tacos on Tuesdays.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We’re so lucky to have the support of each other, in this lifestyle. We agreed when we started this journey, that if one of us wasn’t happy, we would leave. This chapter of life is all about happiness and quality of life, for us. We are also so thankful to have the constant love and encouragement from our grandpa, Charles Wilson, who always tells us to “be happy.”
