We had the good fortune of connecting with Harriet “Hattie” Gilpin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Harriet “Hattie”, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I believe that consistency is the most important factor. Consistently producing high-quality content, branding, and hard work every day.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
After graduating from Clemson University in South Carolina, I quickly moved to Manhattan. I originally began working for a hospitality startup, but in 2018, I decided to step away and bring one of my life-long passions to fruition and launch Hattie Bank Fine Jewelry. I attended the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in order to learn more about the jewelry industry and receive my Gemologist degree. I also began working with an established designer and mentor (who I am forever grateful for) and operating the e-commerce and marketing for the jewelry brand and stores. My biggest takeaway from these experiences has been to always continue educating yourself! I have always believed jewelry should be worn and adored—not kept in a safe. From jeans to the red carpet, jewelry is a marriage of versatility and wearability, and my designs are meant to be worn as a precious part of my client’s daily wardrobe. I am committed to prioritizing this by creating modern, timeless pieces while using the highest quality materials.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My studio is currently based in the diamond district located in New York. This time of year it is a must to walk through Central Park, and grab lunch at The Boat House restaurant. I also love strolling down Bleecker Street and popping into all of the boutiques. Stopping for ice cream at Milk Bar is a must! As far as restaurants and bars, my favorites include Red Farm, The Waverly Inn, Decoy, Dante, Extra Virgin, The Flower Shop, The Garrett (located above Five Guys Burgers for a nightcap upstairs), Jeu Jeu Noodle Bar, and Wo Hop (they have the best dumplings in town!)
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, my production team. I am so thankful for their hard work and determination. My loyal customers have made my progress possible! I am very thankful for their support. I also want to thank my family, my life coach, my publicist, and my badass group of girlfriends. I owe them a lot of thanks– they support me through my lows and celebrate my wins with me.
