We had the good fortune of connecting with Grechen Mixchel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Grechen, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Being an Entrepreneur comes with this idea that many of us dream about, Time Freedom. Time freedom is the opportunity to work when you want, where you want, how you want, and produce income along the way. When many of us first become entrepreneurs we realize that we’re the ones holding ourselves accountable for clocking in, clocking out, showing up, and getting ‘work’ done. One of the biggest challenges when manifesting Time Freedom is Structure.

I grew up in a very rigid, strict, colonized environment. My father was in the military, I attended a private charter school on the campus of UCSD from 6th – 12th grade. As colonized as my childhood was, I felt this deep yearning to break modern tradition.

Upon my senior year, I knew I wanted to be my own boss and yet, I didn’t really know what that would look or feel like. The residual need to please people had me attending college when that voice inside knew there was another way. I had no idea what I was doing at first, starting my own business was all so new to me.

I left college because the activities were not an IPA (Income Producing Activity). Also, because everything took up so much of my time. My thought process was this, why wait for someone to hand me a diploma in order to share my gifts with the world? So I left.

I was working part time as an Assistant Site Supervisor for a 6-6 program. Quickly turning this IPA into my full time. As I continued to work with children, I began to realize I could create deeper bonds and get paid more to work as a live in nanny. The hight of my career was working as a live in nanny for a man who owned his own business. There it was. I was able to observe the habits he had, the way he carried himself, all the abundance that flows, as well as inherent challenges along the path of entrepreneurship. Structure.

I used this time to work on myself and hone in my skills. I received my Reiki Certification, RYT-200 Certification, and began facilitating body work.

I attended an event that showcased Raw artists and their talents. I met a woman who made jewelry and immediately thought to myself, this is it! I can do this! So the next day I went out and bought all the supplies, and I taught myself how to make jewelry. Eventually, I set up at the Farmers Market to sell my craft. Well, you can feel my disappointment when I was hardly breaking even. That’s when I knew I had to go back to the drawing board. I decided to use my certifications and worked for one of the largest yoga franchises in the world. Again, I was hit with this pain of dissatisfaction of working for someone else because I was being under paid and under valued.

I had left my nanny career believing that I was going to make just as much if not more income making jewelry, doing body work, and teaching yoga. There was this moment where I had to let go of my pride and be open to new opportunity.

I began to ask myself deep questions. Who am I? Why am I here? What is my purpose? What is my fascination and my relationship to money? What habits have been passed down to me surrounding money and how can I break free from them? Do I feel like this amount of abundance is for me? Am I worthy to receive this level of abundance?

All I knew was that I didn’t feel worthy of the abundance and that I was living in what’s called lack mindset. There never seemed to be enough. I thought to myself, how can I change this?

I was so ready to let go of this idea of being an entrepreneur. I decided Im going to travel and ‘find myself’. I found myself connecting with a well known reggae band here in So Cal. I used my skills as a nanny and was the singers official childcare provider.

I felt so liberated as we traveled up and down the coast of California. I attended multiple shows and festivals with some of my favorite reggae artists! I had a profound realization that artists are very real people, just like me. What a life, I thought to myself!

Festivals changed my life! There is power in bringing together large amounts of people. There is power in Community. There is Medicine in Music. Life changing experiences heal the Soul. This deep insight changed why I wanted to be an entrepreneur. What changed for me was this deeper desire to serve other people and not just myself.

That love for entrepreneurship began to flood back in. This level of entrepreneurship was so refreshing. I began to bridge the gap between my potential and my North Star, Something I could tap into. I began to truly feel worthy. The fire within me had me feeling like it was time to go back home and plant roots in the ground and build community.

I knew the largest concentration of entrepreneurs was at the Farmers Market. The Farmers Market also brought me so much joy as it reminded me of the community bonds that were prevalent at musical festivals. Someone had to be doing it successfully. I promised myself that by working for someone else, I would be gifted the blessing of learning how to do it successfully.

I say to you truly, ask and you shall receive. I found one of the most sophisticated, successful women I know. Working for her brought me so much value. I learned how to embrace structure and organization which was my strongest resistance when I was conducting business. I was being paid fairly for the value I was receiving in return. I learned how to show up for myself in life and also learned the profound realization that how I showed up in my life was how I showed up in my business. Which gave me more value than a paycheck. This woman also encouraged me to learn, be proactive, and be my own boss. She encouraged that business woman inside me.

My mantra became, I am worthy to receive large amounts of abundance. I accumulated and obtain wealth and abundance. I trust myself to stream my abundance back into my business. I see and honor my finances. I work to serve my mission, my North Star, and I create deep and lasting bonds along the way.

With all of this worthiness flowing inside me, I attracted my husband who is a 4th generation farmer. We fell in love with each other because we were both in love with Farmers Markets. My fiancé is an entrepreneur through and through, The original merchant, The farmer. He worked for the farm since he was a child.

We had so many ideas and our dreams seemed to connect in ways that felt Divinely orchestrated. We dedicated all our time to our ideas. We chose to hold space at the farm and throw Farm to Table Events. A place where we can gather all of our friends who work the farmers markets and all off our customers who shop with us. The perfect way to create community! We are now the leading Sacred Space Facilitators in San Diego, gathering artists, entrepreneurs, vendors, and amazing people together.

My fiancé and I have a North Star of building a 508c1A Non-Profit. Our organization is called From Seed Too Soul. Our North Star involves buying sovereign land and building a Wellness Center. We are dedicated to serving our community through alternative ways of healing and wholeness. A place where people from all walks of life can come and have unforgettable healing experiences. Music, food, land, and soul sovereignty through workshops and sacred gatherings.

My initial thought process of Time Freedom has given me the greatest gift. The challenge itself. Structure. Something I resisted for so long due to my colonization as a child. Once I embraced structuring my time and my life I began to see it as a form of Self Love. Structure is a form of self-love. Being disciplined, structuring my time, setting timers, and carrying out my DMO (daily method of operation) Im able to serve in ways that honor myself and the world. I am now leveraging multiple streams of income. I have become a part of a world wide network of beings dedicated to changing the world with how we do business. Called hydrated entrepreneurship.

The most beautiful part of this entrepreneurship journey is how it magnetizes like hearted people. As well as building bonds. Forming deep lasting bonds attracted a community of conscious beings into my wake.

Along the way I fell in love with my own process, the unfolding, and realization of who I am. A deep reverence for where I’ve been, who I am, and who im becoming. Starting a business is so much more than Time Freedom. It is an ever unfolding process of Self-Realization. Discovering our own Divinity and the Divinity within everything and everyone.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
A fine tuned detail of my journey has everything to do with me being a Mother. The reason Time Freedom was so important to me was because I had very little time with my dad growing up. I knew I wanted something different for my children. I chose to pursue entrepreneurship to be able to work with my babies from the comfort of my home.

Giving birth to my children awakened within me dormant parts of my DNA. Awakened a deep yearning to serve as their Mother and as a Mother of the world.

Along my path, I’ve met so many mothers that are seeking something outside themselves to tell them how to feel inside. The Sacred Space that I hold for mothers in my community teaches them how to reach within them to find what they are seeking. To tap into their indigenous ways and take their power back by birthing in sovereignty. Birthing their children and their North Star in a way that honors them as the master of their own mind, body, and soul.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When people from out of town come and visit I always recommend going to the Farmers Markets! Farmers Markets are the place to be, with the best food, the coolest items, the freshest Organic produce, and the most lively people. No matter what day you arrive there is a market for you! My fiancé and I are both Plant Based and love to find new spots to eat! All places that I mention are Plant Based!

Because you’ll see many of the same vendors at Farmers Markets, its best to plan accordingly. Upon arrival, I would head straight to the Farm. JR Organics Farm is my fiancé, Stephen’s family farm. The largest and longest standing Organic Farm in San Diego is quite incredible!

Next, the Farmers Markets.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The reason that I have been able to create a Vision, Mission, and North Star of this magnitude is due to the mentorship, training, love, and support that I’ve received from my community Wake Water Co. Through this community I recieve 1:1 Mentorship, daily WAKE up calls, weekly community trainings, the proven WAKE Program that was created by 6-figure earners, access to WAKE events, including private retreats, community-building mastermind events, crypto/language/sovereignty Courses, water ceremony events, telegram group chats and so much more! This community has taught me how to be a hydrated entrepreneur. All while being a full time mother. Which is why I call myself the Hydrated Momtrepreneur.
