Meet Good Gravy

We had the good fortune of connecting with Good Gravy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Good Gravy, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Why not?! It’s just about having fun and sharing with the world the things that move you emotionally. Everyone has some sort of outlet that makes them feel more human and connected to themselves and others around them. Art and creativity is necessary. It’s necessary to feel free and express what’s on your mind whether it’s with words, tools, your body, or whatever medium you use to let yourself create with passion. What a bleak and boring world it would be without people who fearlessly share the intimate parts of their minds with the rest of us.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Well let’s keep it simple. We play the blues. It’s not necessarily “different” than what other people are doing with the blues, we just like to go back to the roots. We try to do justice by the artists and play their tunes how they were meant to be played. But ultimately we just have a lot of fun with it and things seem to be going alright for us so far.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We love our home. You can catch us singing our blues away all around town. Though the halls of balboa park are a favorite of ours. Blind Lady Ale House is a must go for quality pizza, beer, music and hospitality. Along with Black Cat Bar, our favorite dive. Man, there’s plenty of places to see in our city but some of the most important, forever and always, will be taco shops and trucks. All of them. Can’t go wrong.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Let’s start by giving a shoutout to the people! Any friend, family member or stranger that has taken the time to see us live and give us kind compliments, thank you very much. Also would like to thank the venues in town that have trusted us enough to play shows even without hearing a lick of our music beforehand! And a HUGE thank you to Jeff Motch over at Blind Lady Ale House and Panama 66 for always taking care of us and giving us a place to play that feels like home. We love you Jeff!
