We had the good fortune of connecting with George Jac and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi George, what principle do you value most?
The value or principle that I hold closest to my heart is empathy, which I believe is essential to building meaningful relationships and fostering effective communication. As a human being, I understand the importance of connecting with others on a deeper level and recognizing their perspectives, needs, and emotions. Empathy allows us to step into someone else’s shoes, to feel what they feel, and to respond with compassion and understanding.

In both my personal and professional life, I have found that empathy has been a crucial factor in building strong relationships with others. It has allowed me to understand and appreciate the diverse perspectives and experiences of the people I work with, collaborate with them more effectively, and create work that resonates with audiences at a deep, emotional level.

In my passion for storytelling, empathy plays a critical role. I believe that great storytelling begins with finding the truth, the ‘why,’ and that this can only be achieved through empathy. By being able to understand and connect with the characters in a story, we can create work that is authentic, compelling, and emotionally resonant.

As a storyteller, I pride myself on being able to empathize with people from all walks of life. This ability allows me to articulate creative ideas at every level of film and video production and collaborate effectively with my team. By building strong relationships and fostering empathy, we can create work that truly connects with audiences and leaves a lasting impact.

In conclusion, empathy is the value or principle that matters most to me because it allows us to build meaningful relationships, communicate effectively, and create work that resonates deeply with audiences. Through empathy, we can find authenticity and create stories that move people emotionally.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Question: ‘We would love to hear what sets you apart from others. What are you most proud of or excited about?’

Answer: In the creative field of filmmaking, my distinguishing characteristic is my unwavering ability to adapt to the numerous challenges and pitfalls that are inherent in production. However, what truly sets me apart is my emphasis on empathy as a guiding principle. By prioritizing empathy, I am able to connect with my co-collaborators on a deeper level, leading to more effective communication and an enhanced understanding of others’ perspectives. This approach has driven me to acquire a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of film production. By truly comprehending my collaborators, I can swiftly overcome obstacles and challenges during the film and video production process.

Question: ‘How did you get to where you are today professionally? Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges?’

Answer: The journey that has led me to where I am today professionally has been a meandering one and certainly not without its challenges. However, my background as a football player and student of the sport has taught me valuable lessons about dealing with life’s difficulties. Football is an especially fitting metaphor for filmmaking. In football, one must create a strategy based on available resources and personnel, then put it into action during games, analyze game film to identify areas for improvement, and repeat the cycle before each subsequent game. These principles have enabled me to succeed in such a fiercely competitive industry.

Question: ‘What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way?’

Answer: Over the course of my career, I have learned a number of important lessons. First and foremost, there is no formula for success in filmmaking. It is crucial to be humble, as this makes it easier to collaborate with others. I also appreciate the opportunity to work with creative individuals as part of my profession. Surrounding oneself with the best brings out the best in everyone. Learning to deal with failure and reducing its impact is also critical. Having the courage to immerse oneself in unfamiliar situations can lead to growth as an artist. Embracing challenges and staying focused on one’s craft, regardless of the industry’s current climate, is vital. Finally, sticking to one’s vision, trusting one’s instincts, and believing in oneself are crucial elements of success.

Question: ‘What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?’

Answer: My brand, “You Don’t Know Jac,” emphasizes the importance of empathy and openness to new ideas. These traits have allowed me to thrive, and I hope to inspire others to adopt them as well. I believe that empathy can have a significant positive impact on one’s life, and I strive to incorporate it into every aspect of my work.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
San Diego, known as “America’s Finest City,” is a delightful place to visit or live, offering a sun-kissed ambiance and a plethora of natural beauty and because the city boasts a vast scenic coastline and a mild Southern California climate, I’d suggest most of their time be spent near the beaches. San Diego is also renowned for its laidback vibe and surfer culture, which adds to its charm.

Because I’m into the arts, I’d also recommend the variety of exceptional museums and historic tourist attractions, many of which are related to its rich maritime heritage, situated alongside the shimmering Pacific Ocean. San Diego of course, offers a variety of great shops and restaurants to explore, such as Seaport Village and the beautiful outdoor malls, and top off the evening by checking out the bar and nightlife scenes like in Mission Beach, Pacific Beach & Gaslamp Quarter in Downtown San Diego.

Lastly, San Diego provides excellent opportunities for plenty of outdoor activities, and if they’re interested in the cross-border experience, we can easily access Tijuana in nearby Mexico to add even more to their itinerary.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a shoutout to my wife for being such an incredible support system for me throughout the past decade. Her sacrifices to allow me to pursue my creative career have been truly awe-inspiring, and her love and care have always kept me motivated to never give up. Not only has she been a constant source of emotional support, but I’ve also learned so much from her work ethic as a self-taught cyber security analyst. Her self-motivation and determination have been contagious and have definitely influenced my own work ethic as a director and producer. I’m extremely grateful for her unwavering encouragement and support, and I couldn’t have come this far without her.
