We had the good fortune of connecting with Gail Siller and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gail, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
As a child, I always loved looking at photos. I have fond memories of sitting on my grandmother’s bed looking through her photo album of past generations. A photo is like a time capsule, taking you back in time, sparking a memory, telling a story, and giving you a feeling. When I had children of my own, it led me to pick up a camera, so I was able to capture every precious moment the days, months and years gave me. This love of capturing my own family memories gave me a desire to pursue providing this feeling to others. I enjoy meeting different people and capturing their own special memories to be passed down to future generations.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I specialize in natural light maternity, newborn, and family photography, working with my clients every step of the way from coordinating outfits, to making sure the day of the shoot is stress free and fun. I like to personalize each of my sessions to my client’s personality. If a child is restless, I may play some games and do more action shots. If a child is shy, I may have them check out my camera and see how the magic of their smile appears on my screen. Parents always thank me for being so patient. Trust me as a mom, I know how important it is to capture that image that melts your heart. In the new year I opened a studio in Huntington Beach. It is light, bright, and simple. Perfect for dreamy newborn and maternity photos. I am really excited to grow this part of my business and in the near future will be offering a client closet for mom’s at my studio sessions.

My family relocated to Socal about 5 years ago. Not knowing a soul, I really had to grow my business from nothing. Let’s just say I did not even have a personal Facebook or Instagram page prior to starting my business. So it has been bit of a learning curve. I have grown my business by always going above and beyond and that shows with returning clients each year and referrals.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a beach lover! SoCal has so many beautiful beaches to visit and enjoy, I would spend each day at a different one. Watching my kids boogie board at Bolsa Chica and the surfers at Huntington Beach Pier, then grabbing a bit to eat at Simmzy’s at Pacific City. Taking a bike ride to Newport Harbor where my kids can play on the playground, and breakfast at the Lighthouse Cafe. A hike down to the bottom of the cliffs at Crystal Cove State Park in Newport Beach to explore the tidepools. Making a picnic lunch to take to Victoria Pirate Tower in Laguna Beach. After all this fun, an escape to Catalina Island for the weekend where we would rent golf carts to explore the island and enjoy some great cuisine.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

I would like to recognize my wonderful and supportive husband of 15 years and our two adorable children who are the love of my life. Without them my dream and passion of being a photographer would not have been possible.
