Meet Gabby Micalizio | Pet Stylist (Dog Groomer)

We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabby Micalizio and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gabby, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Since becoming a business owner juggling has become a second trait to me. For me my balance has definitely changed being more conscience of my time and being more aware of scheduling. I really never put to mind how much having a schedule is so important to anyone having a busy lifestyle. I’m a very organized person and always like to know that I have my schedule planned ahead for the next week or i go nuts knowing I have nothing planned out. I’d say as a business owner and also someone with a busy lifestyle having balance is a main factor in anyones life.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What I am so excited about is having my own official business that I can officially call my own, it feels so fulfilling to be able to work more with my clients and create the types of styles that I have been wanting to work on for many years. I plan to compete in the next year for dog grooming competitions throughout the states. I’m proud to call myself a business owner hearing and creating the styles of my clients desires.
I never thought in my time and life I would become a Dog Groomer. There were many questions that were surrounding my mind where do I start, how do I go through this, is there a school or academy or me to enroll. I started at Petsmart and worked my way from the bottom as a bather for the dogs and eventually in a year went to school to become a full time groomer. I would say becoming a dog groomer was not easy it can be fun and exciting at times but there is an also a portion of physical work mental work and lots and lots of patience. As a groomer that I have been told we never stop learning we are always growing and thriving in our community.
The way I would say to overcome challenges would be learning from your mistakes and seeing how you can improve again. The important thing of being a groomer is don’t be hard on yourself making mistakes is apart of your journey and how you can improve next time. You would never become a perfect groomer overnight it takes lots of training practice and courses to really understand our craft.
As a groomer I devote lots of time, energy and love into making your pets looking great and adorable. Being a dog groomer for 4 years I always want the best for my clients and their dogs I always assure that they are in great hands with someone that has an immense amount of patience and care that I can give to your pups. I like to push myself with becoming more advanced in my knowledge of grooming and pet care. I take my safety and attention very seriously when I work with my dogs. Becoming CPR certified and First Aid certified has helped me be more aware of health scares and putting my clients trust in myself and my business better.
What I would want the world to know about my brand and story is I am a very passionate and ambitious woman who puts much attention and devotion into what I do. At my brand Gabby’s Grooming LLC. I want Pet owners to be assured that I do the best work for all my clients and also invest in the best bands that are safe but effective towards your pets health. I also want them to know not only are they in good and ensuing hands with my business but there is also lots of affection and love I provide for your pets.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Im a huge traveler I love spending any minute I have exploring new territories and ventures. One of my favorite places to visit is Cayucos in Northern California. I have been going there for a couple summers now, it’s such a local peaceful and quiet town to just get away from city life for awhile the weather is always very cool and sunny. I love going to the local farmers markets there and antique shopping is always a plus.
One of my favorite restaurants to eat at is Roma Di Italia I like to go there when we have birthdays, celebrations or special occasions. They’re food is close to Italy as it can be. Another Dive I like going to is Tk burger they have the best burgers always made quick and friendly service.
Hollywood is another place I would recommend traveling to. When I travel there I like going to the museum of Academy of Motion Pictures. I’m a huge fan of movies and seeing all the set designs of how they were created the costumes and history is so much fun to experience. Dinning at Fanny’s inside the museum is another great experience seeing all the old time movies and actors around just adds to the fun.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are many people that I would like to thank in pushing me through this incredible opportunity. One of the main people I want to thank is my mom. I was in a pro and con debate about opening my own business and what it would be like to take that leap. My mom pushed me but also encouraged me to take that chance of knowing what will happen. She has been very supportive throughout my journey and strives me to keep going and not to give up. I have a few friends from when I was grooming at my first job in Petsmart one friend I thank the most is my friend Jill Novorot. I deeply thank them for being supportive as well and knowing i can become successful in the future.
