Meet Evelyn Salazar | Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Evelyn Salazar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Evelyn, what are you inspired by?
My customers inspire me everyday with their positivity and creativity. Every customer that I interact with has a story and a dream and that’s what inspires me everyday. Everyday that I hear their stories on either life or the business it inspires me to keep on going for them. They believe in me and that’s what inspires me to keep on doing what I do.

What should our readers know about your business?
Standlees’s is a bakery supply store. We are the ONLY bakery supply store in San Diego! I’m proud to be the owner of a legacy that has been a part of the Chula Vista community for over 60 years. It wasn’t easy obtaining the business especially during a pandemic. Its been challenging but despite everything the community has been very open to me being the new owner. Everyday I learn something new and I love it. I want my customers to know that I want to be able to provide everything that they need to succeed in there careers. As a community if we work together we can grow together.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was in town I would definitely bring her down to third Ave. I love all our business that we have around here. I’m all about supporting small businesses and each other. I feel like we have some fun and great tasting restaurants. There’s no need to go far when we have everything here locally.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to recognize my customers for believing in me and encouraging me to get to where I’m. I started my journey in becoming an entrepreneur 2 years ago when the pandemic hit. I worked for Kaiser for 18 years and when the pandemic hit I decided to do what I loved as a side business and that was desserts and charcutier boards. It was a hit and I had a lot of happy returning customers. That’s when I decided to leave my career and start on this journey as a business owner. Life is to short to not do what you love! Now that I’m the owner of Standlee’s’s not only I’m able to do what I love but I also get to meet some amazing people. My customers encourage me and motivate me to keep on striving to do what I do. Thank you to them I had the determination to leave my job and take on this new roll as a small business owner.
