Today we’re excited to be connecting with Evelyn Gonzalez again. If you haven’t already, we suggest you check out our prior conversation with them here.

Evelyn, we are so thrilled to be connecting again and can’t wait to hear about all the amazing things you have been up to. Before we jump into all of that, some of our readers might have missed our prior interview, so can you take a moment to reintroduce yourself?
Hello, I am Evelyn Gonzalez, a Multimedia artist and small business owner from San Diego. Over the past several years I have been able to build a brand around my digital artwork and even opened an art shop, where I sell stationary, stickers, and prints of my artwork. I create artwork inspired by anime, cartoons, and sweets. I have a huge love of food, which has heavily inspired my three-dimensional artwork, as I sell food-themed phone cases in my art shop. My brand has a huge emphasis on childhood nostalgia, as I’m not only an artist but I’m also a toy collector. This has allowed me to branch out my artistic skills past the computer screen as I’ve picked up Garage kit-making and toy customization. Because of this, I have been able to make friends within the toy-collecting community, which has led me to great opportunities. I’ve been able to collaborate with other toy artists and even sell my artwork at a toy shop called Kouhightoys, where you can directly buy my products in-store. Alongside making artwork, I also have a YouTube channel where I post vlogs, art speed paints, and toy hauls. This has been a particularly successful endeavor, where I get to creatively share my art and hobbies with my fans directly. I have discovered a love for video editing as well and I try to incorporate my artwork into my YouTube videos as much as possible to enhance the video viewing experience. My goal is to make the viewers feel like they’re watching a TV episode of their favorite show.

Awesome, so we reached out because we wanted to hear all about what you have been up to since we last connected.
So much has happened in the past 4 years since we last spoke, But all change has been for the best! Since 2020 I have expanded my skill set and branched out from just digital art. I rekindled my love for sculpting and created many clay figures and soft sculptures. Picking up on garage kit making and toy customization was the next natural step from that, and was a very rewarding hobby as I got to practice and refine my painting skills. Because of my more recent dive into 3d creations, I was worried I wouldn’t be able to translate them into my art shop very well, but I found a unique way of using my 3d work by turning my smaller sculptures and creations into sticker sheets. I love the look of three-dimensional stickers, they have such a unique and cute look to them, and I feel like it makes my stickers really stand out! Along with upgrading my print shop to sell stationery like notepads and sticker sheets, I also recently started selling Decoden phone cases. Decoden is a type of Japanese decoration that comprises of DIY sweets, fake frosting, and rhinestones. With my love of clay and DIY projects, I was able to create my own line of Decoden phone cases, where I handmake fake cookies, biscuits, and chocolates. Using fake whipping cream, I frost and decorate the cases myself and sell them in my art shop. However, I’m still attached to my digital art roots, I create original art pieces that I sell in-store but I also have teamed up with brands and other artists such as Shop Solani, an accessories and apparel shop. This collaboration was one of my biggest achievements in the past couple of years, as I got to work with a team and help design packaging, posters, and branding. As of last year I’ve been officially added to their art and design team. It has been an amazing experience to work with other small businesses and brands, and I hope I can do even more collaborative work in the future!

What are you most excited about in the coming year?
I am excited to continue my artistic endeavors and go even further with my art career. I want to focus on my YouTube channel so I can create more long-form content that details my art and hobbies. I also want to collaborate with more artists this year, There are so many people I look up to and I hope I can do bigger projects with another artist alongside me! to be able to create art with another person is an experience I recommend to all artists, as it builds our community and strengthens our bonds with one another. There are many more people in this world who share the same interests you, so I always encourage artists to seek out one another and build that connection. I hope one day in the future to be able to create my toy line as well but that may a bit too ambitious for this year, haha, But I still have big dreams to tackle and I want to really put myself out there this year!
