We had the good fortune of connecting with Erika Murrietta and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erika, what matters most to you?
When it comes to my baking/cake decorating business, it’s about taking pride in my work. I love the idea of being part of people’s special events and occasions that will be photographed and remembered- and creating something that I’m proud to display in cake form is of high value to me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Cake art is so understated, I believe. When I watch cake decorators on YouTube and other places I am just in awe of what is created. I do my very best to duplicate or create such designs on cake and there’s so much trial and error that goes into it.

Cake decorating is not for the weak, it takes tons of practice and I love when I learn tips and tricks from decorators I admire.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When I decided to take on cake decorating and baking, it was my husband who encouraged to dive right into a local class that teaches cake art. I never thought I had what it takes to be creative and take on something so intimidating but I truly love it and enjoy the reactions of my parents, family and friends when I post images of my cakes.

I truly get cheered on and encouraged by everyone in my life so it keeps me going and I love making my mother and daughter proud.
