Meet Emily Halesworth | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Halesworth and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emily, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have been drawn to art for as long as I can remember. I actually started college as a Political Science major and immediately knew that I needed to pivot to my creative passions. Today, I run my small business, Art by Emba, and work full-time in digital marketing. I love to look at situations through a creative lens, whether that’s finding solutions to a problem or developing new ideas. My favorite aspect of creating visual art is bringing visions to life. When working with clients, that vision can range from branding elements, album covers, beloved pet portraits, and much more. Bringing that dream to life is the most satisfying part of the process.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Today, my favorite medium is digital illustration. I love to morph traditional elements with a digital style to create a mixed-media effect.
While I am inspired by anything and everything, my personal work is heavily influenced by my second passion – music. I love to draw my favorite musicians and include elements that remind me of the feelings their music provokes. My greatest artistic accomplishment is being recognized by one of my heroes – Bob Weir from the Grateful Dead! His team reached out to me on Instagram (@artbyemba) after I posted a portrait I drew of him. I sent him a framed piece to display in his studio, and about a year later he shared it on his Instagram. Easily the highlight of my career so far.
It’s a fun challenge to visualize how sound “looks”, depicting sound waves with color patterns that I imagine when enjoying their discography.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am born and based in Boston, but my love for SoCal is strong! I especially love San Diego and have had the pleasure of visiting several times. On my next trip to SD, I would have a breakfast burrito at Kona’s Cafe, take a bike ride down Pacific beach, and visit the Hotel Del Coronado for drinks and a spectacular sunset!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
